Camofreak Report post Posted July 19, 2016 Finally just sent off the Creed. Since its out of warranty I was concerned, but the guy reassured me if it was obviously a manufacturing error it would not cost me on my part. So hopefully I'll get it back in working order and be on my marry way.
Camofreak Report post Posted August 8, 2016 Does anyone know what the chamber specs are for a 65CM? Just got the gun back and went to check some of the measurements as they said they reamed it out more, and now it seems the throat is wayyy long. When i went to check my OGIVE i pushed the bullet into the chamber and started pushing the bullet into the throat and it went all the way out of the case pretty much. Like my OAL is 3.050... Im going to shoot it with factory loads on wednesday, so i guess ill see. But right now it seems way off.
Camofreak Report post Posted August 8, 2016 And bare with me, as im new to this and my lingo may not be right, lol. Im also using a 140gr HVLD so i understand the measurements may be different for other bullets, but i still think thats way long. I may be over thinking it though (Long weekend of bears/deer scouting).
Camofreak Report post Posted August 8, 2016 Thanks Lance, after looking over the SAAMI specs it looks like im just about okay. Only other question i have is that the SAAMI specs say max bullet length is 2.825", but when i measure the ogive and i pus my bullet into the lands the COAL is 3.050. Is SAAMI referring to max bullet length as the max length that will fit in the mag?
ctafoya Report post Posted August 8, 2016 this is a lot like the problem I am having with my savage 116 in 300wsm. I have it narrowed down to the case right now. I just picked up some new norma brass, and it is not tight. Old brass is still tight. I have measured everything possible on both cases and they are the same. I just cant figure out what the deal is. ctafoya Report post Posted August 8, 2016 Base to shoulder I have no way to measure. Just overall length. I have loaded this brass more times than I can count so the thought that it is stretched makes a lot of sense.
Camofreak Report post Posted August 8, 2016 SAAMI specs are so the cartridge will fit in every factory rifle, single shot or repeater. Meaning the shortest magazine box dictates COAL. SAAMI COAL does not have to be adhered to in reloads. If you want a 3.8" cartridge making your rifle a single shot, go for it. I don't think I have a single rifle, or worked up loads for a rifle, that meet SAAMI specs for COAL. All of mine are seated longer that SAAMI numbers. I tune my loads to MY guns. Not a general load to fit every gun. Gotcha, sounds like she should be good! It's definitely not tight anymore, and my bullets aren't getting stuck and scraped up anymore, so we're good there! Smith2260 Report post Posted August 8, 2016 Cyafoya... I was having an issue with my 300wsm brass chambering also. My brass was just a touch long, 2.095-2.100. I trimmed all my brass to 2.090 per the Lyman book, and it all chambers perfectly now.
Mike S Report post Posted August 9, 2016 Once the brass has been work hardened thru repeated firings, you can expect some spring back after shoulder bumping with your original die setting.
ctafoya Report post Posted August 10, 2016 No clue what you guys are talking about. Looks like I have a long ways to go......
CouseforLife Report post Posted August 21, 2016 If you are just neck sizing a WSM stop. I have loaded for 5 different WSM and a few SAUMS. Every single one had issues when you just neck size the brass. It is also well documented that neck sizing the WSM's causes chambering issues later. I FL size everything now and have not had a problem with tight brass since. May not be the issue you are having but just in case. I also bump shoulders back just a touch on all them. I have tried annealing my WSM brass and I am either doing something wrong or it just wont work with the pressures but after about 2 or 3 reloads the brass cracks just below the shoulder. Brass is cheap enough and readily available so I quit. I get about 10 to 12 reloads before having to toss the brass. I have also learned that Winchester brass is crap for WSM and SAUMS. No issues at all with Remington, Norma, and Nosler brass. Have found the Norma to be the most consistent with length and weight.
ctafoya Report post Posted August 23, 2016 After some you tube searches I understand things a lot better. Gonna start bump sizing as well. Its the only thing that make sense what could be going on.
PRDATR Report post Posted August 28, 2016 After some you tube searches I understand things a lot better. Gonna start bump sizing as well. Its the only thing that make sense what could be going on.When you bump the shoulder back, start long, and turn the die down ever so slightly, rerun it, and measure the shoulder datum. You want between .001-.003" of shoulder bump back. No more. .001" is a tiny amount to turn the die down, so measure carefully. Even locking the die down tighter or looser in the press can make a .001" difference. I have a mark on my press, and when I get my die set and the lock ring tightened down, I Mark the lock ring to match the mark on the die. Makes it easy next time you spin in the die to make sure you are in the same depth every time. Lance, how do you measure that and what do you use?
