My understanding of it is that the vote is more symbolic than anything and that it's primary function is to select the new president IF one of the candidates fail to get the 270 electoral votes needed to win. This is the backdoor to the White House that Gary Johnson and that other yahoo from Utah were hoping to exploit. However, Trump soundly trounced her in the electoral election 290:232. The winner is clear. Now the issue these rocket scientists are raising is that 'Well Hillary won the popular vote! She's the candidate the people chose! It's not fair - whaaaa whaaaa whaaaaaaaaaaaa!' They are retards who don't understand how the system works. Our brilliant forefathers set up the best government the world has ever seen, not because it is based on the will of the people, but because it is designed specifically for the purpose of protecting individual liberty! Even way back in 1787 when the Constitutional Convention was held and this system was created they realized that if any one individual state became to big and powerful, in a popular voting system this state (or states, California & New York) could crush the rest of the country and control the political system. The electoral college is a system that maintains the strength and liberty of smaller states by protecting them from being over run. The system worked exactly as it was designed too. The media is making it seem like there's a lot more of them than there is, that's what they do. As far as their petition, it's an online deal which means that it is absolutely worthless! You've got a hundred thousand or so liberal dumb chit college kids logging in from different phones/tablets/whatever and signing over & over & over again to get the big number they want. It means nothing to anyone, except morons who don't know anything.
