WOW, this buck green scores 122 inches!
Here is a little story about the hunt”
“I was in a stand and about ready to leave in fact I had the string tied on to the top cam of my bow when I looked up one last time and here come three bucks trotting in. My heart started to pump harder than ever because I knew they would’nt stay long. I started to try and untie the string from my bow with my hands shaking with buck fever. (I love that feeling) I finally got it untied and had to turn around in my stand. ( I was standing up facing the tree, because I was about to get down. ) As I did I saw the big one front and center and started to draw when I realized that the string had fallen from the top cam and had got caught up on the bottom cam. As I drew the bow the string was wrapping up in the cam but I knew this was my only chance. If I let down and tried to untangle the string it would be over, so I took it back to full draw and hoped that the string was weathered enough that the bow would over power the string and my arrow would stay true. By this time the buck had turned quartering away and I put the correct pin on the middle of his rib cage and released. The bow sounded different as it ripped the string and the arrow hit a little back of its intended mark but he was quartering away so I knew when I saw it enter it was a good hit. All three deer ran off and the one I hit went behind a tree so I could not see him. The other two deer stopped milled around and then bedded down. I waited a couple hours meanwhile the two bucks eventually got up and fed on out. I got down and went over to take a look an I was obviously as happy as I could be. Our pictures of him last year were good but he put on even more.”

“The shot was taken at 15 yards with a 70 lb Mathews XT and 100 grain G5 Montec broadhead. I recovered the deer only 40 yards from where the shot was taken. After scouting, I placed my ground blind the week before and waited. The first day of my hunt it walked right up on me. I would rather be lucky than good!”

“I was blessed with this beautiful buck on opening morning. I had been up scouting new trails, water holes every other weekend since may 1st. I had not found this buck until the 2nd week of august. I have many trail cams up and they were my homework finder. I was sitting a trail, in a pop up blind. As he walked by at 31 yards I made a nice shot with him only going about 60-70 yards. Hopefully I’ll be able to help my 11 year old son also take a buck on the 23 youth hunt in oct.”

Geoff and his friend Josh Epperson hunted this buck from a treestand. It’s a brute of a buck that green scores about 122. Josh says at least some of their luck that day comes from him wearing his grong orange CouesWhitetail.com tshirt!! Nice!

Patrick Finch 2007
Dec. 2007
Pat is from New Mexico and here is what Pat had to say about his hunt:
“This is a pic of a deer i just got in arizona, he’s not big, but any Coues with a bow in my book is a trophy. This was a last minute decision on where to go, we had not scouted this area at all. Me and my buddy went in this area on December 15th, found a scrape line and set a tree stand. I sat this stand on the 16th, and had 5 mulie bucks come within 70 yrds and had 1 coues spike come in right under my tree, then I saw a nice 80 class coues about 150 yrds. After all the activity I decided to do some rattling. I started my sequence and put my horns up and looked and here was this buck, he was so aggressive, he won me over. I had time to decide on whether to shoot him, but I knew I could come back in January, so I stuck him. He expired about 50 yrds and 5 seconds later. I have a coues tag for January in new mexico, then in Arizona again. I hope to fulfill a dream of 3 coues in two months.”

This buck scores about 88 5/8 and is so symmetrical that it only has 3/8 inches of deductions.
Jeremy Ulmer 2008
Jan 2008
Jeremy is thrilled to have taken this monster non-typical. It will probably gross in the high 120s and is one of the largest bucks ever taken by a bow. WOW!
Alton Good 2007
Sept 2007
(aka LoneWolf)
Unit 33, AZ
Here is what Alton’s son wrote about the hunt:
My dad Alton took this beautiful buck on the second of September 2007 in unit 33. He grosses 114 7/8 and is a typical 3×4. He made a great long 70 yard shot that put the buck straight down. My brother, dad and I were hunting all day when we jumped him up heading back to the truck. I am the one in the green shirt and my brother has the camo shirt on. We had a great time and made memories that we will never forget. Hope you all enjoy the pics and the sight of such a great mature buck on the ground with three coues hunters that couldn’t be any happier. Good luck to all and safe hunting.

Josh has been having a tremendous hunting season! He bagged a monster with his rifle in Nov and then took this awesome deer in Jan!
Robert Poor 2008
Jan 2008
(aka elpepe25)
Robert was lucky enough to have his trail camera catch a photo of the buck he shot right before he shot it (top photo) and right after he shot it (middle photo).
Here is what Robert said about his hunt:
This is the buck I’ve been after since October, I have approximately 50-75 game camera pictures of him. Then in mid December he quit showing up, followed by stories of other hunters pounding the area and taking great bucks. I sat in my blind every weekend this month w/o sightings of him. Finally he came in yesterday and I had a rare opportunity to take him. The two daytime game camera photos are of him just before and just after the shot. He gross scores 107 1/8 inches and has double split brow tines.
Mario Grambs 2008

Robert took this buck with his bow during the rifle season. He had seen this buck a couple times during the archery season and couldn’t get a shot. Then he set out a game camera for a couple months and never got pictures of him until the week before the hunt. Robert got this buck with a 20 yard shot from his ground blind. After 40 yards of trailing, he found the buck. It gross scores about 102 4/8.

Scott Miller 2006
Jan 2006
Ft. Huachuca, AZ
here is what Scott had to say about his hunt:
I shot this deer on 8 January 2006 using spot and stalk. My partner I first glassed this buck and a doe along with two other bucks and does watering at a pond. They eventually moved off the water and up a saddle on the opposite side of the canyon we were on. We moved over to the other side and was working our way to a rock outcropping to try to glass them up again when I saw movement. This buck was following the same doe right to me. They stopped behind a cedar tree which allowed me to draw. When they stepped out I took the shot at 21 yards. He went about 75 yards down hill and expired in a Manzanita bush. I took another smaller buck in Jan 07 and am now hooked on bow hunting these grey ghost’s of the desert with a bow only.
