Ed67 Report post Posted March 21 Tire question for 1/2 ton truck trailer pullers. Anyone here running Load range F tires instead of E? I currently have F rated tires/Toyo AT3s on my Tundra but dang are they a rough ride and wondering if it’s overkill. my current trailer is about 5300 empty. 654321 Report post Posted March 21 Run BFG KO2 load range E on my F150, run 80psi when pulling my 24ft travel trailer. When I get to camp I drop the tire pressure back down to 32psi. Air back up to 80 when pulling trailer back.
Roosevelt Mark Report post Posted March 21 E is fine, I pull 35 ft 5th wheel all over the west.
Hoss50 Report post Posted March 22 D or E should be fine. F is way to much. I have run D & E on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. The nice part about heavier tires is tougher sidewalls. That also is what causes worse eise though. My 1 ton right now has E rated and I down my 21' trailer at about 55psi. I street drive it at about 40psi. Ed67 Report post Posted March 23 I’m definitely switching from F to E

This makes no sense The wheels that come on a half ton are not rated for the 3000+ pounds that a load range E tire can take. They hold up better in the rocks but you don't need to run 80 psi Your wheel bearings and springs can't take 6000# either. I run Es on both of my F150s but I have never inflated above 50 psi. I can't imagine how rough it would ride.

I've had the truck 9 yrs now and have replaced the battery, brakes once and spark plugs and coil packs once. I also run load range E's on my trailer.
