Alright, couple more questions i thought of.

 

Set up on the minis. Talking to my friend, he has a stationary rv on the rim. Since hes in a park with a physical address, he did the starlink home. He warned me that he has connectivity issues and has his on a pole.  i know (from this thread), that the mini is more mobile, but ive seen the tripod adapter. Is it better on the mini? i dont mind getting the long cable and moving it to  clearings, but how does it work with high trees.

and on that note? heavy cloud cover?

 

And Where to purchase? On starlinks website, the mini is going for $200. But amazon has it for $450? Am i missing something? lol I dont think amazon is a kit from what i can tell

They are both the same (Amazon and Starlink). Normal retail is about $450-$500 but they are always on sale. I bought mine a while back at Home Depot for about $220. I think even then it was a lot more on Amazon. Makes me wonder if Elon and Bezos don't get along. Currently $249 and Home Depot if you want to purchase in-store. They tend to have them up front by the registers. I think the biggest reason for the tripod is to get it off the gound to keep it clean and from getting stepped on. It does rely on line of sight with satellites, so if surrounded by tall trees, a few feet off the ground isn't going to make a difference. Once you set it up with the app on your phone it will tell you if you have sufficent line of sight or need to move. You need some open sky, but it doesn't have to be wide open.

Also, of important note, the $5 a month stand by mode does still give you low speed data. It won't let you stream and move through the internet very well, sort of like old school dial up. But I have found that the low speed will still allow me to send and receive texts and audio phone calls without drops or issues.

They run deals on their site alot. That's where we got ours. 180 on the  sale at the time.
