Champ and Crossbow Permit Proposed Changes

I'm curious as to why the concern over a crossbow hunter that has a valid  permit. The  arguments I have heard is it's going to keep units open longer and eliminate cheaters. That and avoiding a draw. With a limited resource and  increasing pressure anyone thinking a draw isn't coming has their head in the sand. And probably sooner rather than later.

The argument is, it isn’t archery. Permit or not

No argument with anyone with a valid permit, the point is making the permit more restrictive so only those that really have the disability and need can use them. Not  just anyone that has decided to look for an advantage, too lazy to put in the work, has a kid that can’t pull the legal weight or too scared to let their kid actually hunt etc.

It’s as much  archery as the compound bows being used today.

If it’s a separate weapon class, create a season  for it. If crossbow hunters are taking a 20% kill out of the archery hunt reduce the archery hunt take by 20% and create it’s own separate season. That would mean going to a draw.

I bet not many people would favor that idea.

A new muzzle loader isn’t really a muzzle loader either and everybody has a boner over those so what’s the difference

True but a lot of guys want to hunt the rut. Rifle rut tags are few and far between and very hard to draw so the best and sometimes only option to hunt the rut are the archery hunts.

Yes this is it. The entitled generation need to hunt the rut by whatever means necessary. The same dudes who cry about not getting drawn for ram by age 60 when they started applying at age 50

I'd rather see cactus jack road hunting for a little 2 point with his crossbow anyday compared to a mountain top full of KUIU Kathys and Sitka Sallys glassing for one flat brimmed hat wearing lifted f 250 driving towing a 4 seater razor with a 10 thousand dollar clickety click rifle shooting 600 yards farther than he should be "hunter". This is ruining our sport a lot more than a crossbow in an archery hunt. Extra credit if your flat brimmed hat is over your ears.

It is amazing how far this went off track.

The net net,

Disabled hunters are amongst us. From kids to adults.

ADA law requires accommodations be made to ensure that individuals with disabilities have an equal opportunity to participate in public hunting programs and activities. Public entities may need to make reasonable modifications to their policies, practices, and procedures to ensure individuals with disabilities can access public hunting programs. For example, this could involve adapting regulations or providing alternative means of access.

The public comment period is required by law also. The Commission is not required to do what the public wants, they are supposed to act in the best interest of the wildlife and wildlife management, based on scientific studies. But we should still comment.

Reasonable modifications and accommodations do not mean that everywhere has to be accessible, but it does mean that the disabled hunter doesn't have to hang it up and go fishing or sit on the sideline.

Many of us volunteer on youth hunts for friends, family or just someone asking for help.  It is an awesome experience being with them on their first or 5th hunt.

Doing the same thing with a disabled person that thought they would never get the chance, kid or adult, to hunt or keep hunting is life changing for everyone involved.

Whether you change your mind one way or the other, doesn't really matter.  Negative comments about who you think should or should not hunt will not affect the outcome, it just shows how you think and treat others. The internet has made people feel more comfortable to show their true colors.  Ghandi has a famous quote when asked why he rejects Christ, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ".
