Is unit 1 archery worth a shot?

Recommended Posts

So I’ve got 20 points and see I have a chance at unit 1 archery,

is it worth it or should I wait a few years in hopes of something better?

thoughts?

Lots of factors:  not many B&C candidates in Unit 1.  Lots of antelope but lots of competition.  Good access.  Way cooler than some other units.  Archery Antelope is unbearably challenging for my skill level.  I have had plenty of friends back in my youth, who were skilled archers, try and get blanked, with many wounded animals getting away.  If you have taken deer and elk with a bow, know your limits and will stick to them, and can shoot out to 100 yd, go for it.  OR can sit in a blind forever on water, you might make it.

20 pts is a lot to give up on archery speed goat.  I believe kill percentage is low. If your going to do it, do like 4a that has acouple tags and good goats. No pressure at water holes.

Bigtub is spot on, if your looking for a big buck it would be tough. If you want to fling arrows 100 yards at smaller bucks it would be a really fun hunt. Pm sent.

Well. This is the reason I’ve asked the question and guys like you all have better knowledge than me.
so as of now I think I’ll just be trying other units and keep building points.
thanks guys.

Everybody is different but I would consider what method of hunting brings you the most joy.  I'm in my 60's and killed two with a rifle and two with a bow, No way I am ever hunting antelope with a gun again.  For me, hunting with a bow and arrow is MUCH more fun and satisfying.  Good Luck on whatever you decide but I say just hunt.
