trphyhntr Report post Posted Friday at 08:55 PM Then take the scope off the gun entirely, put it back on the gun, will it be reasonably accurate? Maybe someone has done this for shits and giggles
richs4839 Report post Posted Friday at 09:05 PM A friend was looking for help for his first elk hunt. Told him to buy a tikka. Bought a brand new tikka 7mm. Bought a vortex viper pst II off of coueswhitetail.com. The scope was already mounted in rings. He showed up to the range and pulled the rifle out of the box brand new. He mounted the scope that was already in rings. It shot three shots through the same hole the first three shots out of the gun.

Chef Report post Posted Friday at 09:31 PM I have a Marlin lever action with Weaver quick-release rings on a Picatinny rail. (scout scope set-up) It holds POA after removing/reinstalling.
Lucafu1 Report post Posted Friday at 09:50 PM I have on guns with picatinny rails and its very very close. Leupold bases and I always had to adjust windage. Switching rifles has never worked and off by quite a bit. Even if the rifle is the same (but different).
richs4839 Report post Posted Friday at 10:12 PM They three shots were close to the bullseye. He was sighting it in at 100 yards. After i saw that I said any new rifle I buy would be a tikka.

Maybe someone has done this for shits and giggles I would say reasonably close, but I wouldn't hunt untill I put it on paper again. I'm headed out tomorrow just to check four rifles that have just been sitting.
catclaw Report post Posted Saturday at 04:25 PM Totally depends on the mounts. I have a Rem Mountain rifle that I remove the walnut stock from and put it in an aluminum breakdown shotgun case inside my duffle. Because of the way it's bedded it's always zeroed when I put the stock back on. I often take a back up scope on hunts that's pre-zeroed. Works for me
