Potentially need help turning down 5/8-24 threads to 1/2-28

Did a quick search of the net. While there are not many manufacturers that offer an adapter that steps down to a smaller thread the adapter does exist.  It could solve your problem for far less money and time.

 

5/8″×24 RH (female) to 1/2″×28 RH (male) Thread Adapter – SKU#080 - Hughes Precision LLC

 

If you go this route, keeping the thicker thread on your barrel will have more strength. 

Robert Whitley did a study posted on Accurate Shooter that causes belling of the muzzle due to insufficient thickness. (must admit this might not be observable unless the rifle shooter is using it for bench rest competitions)

I had considered using an adapter; I wasnt sure how concentric this would be and it adds barrel length with no velocity gain, minimal, but not optimal. If threading is too expensive i’ll go with the adapter
