UggRedBilly Report post Posted 17 hours ago Me and my wife are looking at getting a bass boat and we really wanted a beginner boat to just get around the lake and enjoy some days cruising and fishing. We really love the tracker XL or the Tracker XL Limited but I would like to save money where I can when it comes to options! I am really looking into the 25 HP option but I read mixed reviews on if people like it or not and to go all the way up to a 50 HP option but that is almost 3k extra after tax. I want to fish canyon lake, Apache, and roosevelt and I have never owned a boat in my life. I would be more than happy going 20 MPH to get a couple miles in so would it be wise to take the 25 HP or should I shell the extra cash for a 40 HP or a 50 HP? Thank you!
Big Tub Report post Posted 17 hours ago Always get the motor that is listed on the placard as the max HP.

NOTAGS Report post Posted 2 hours ago 1 hour ago, trphyhntr said: What about a used boat This! Let someone else take the depreciation hit and loss. New boat prices are criminal. Theres tons of Trackers for sale that are garage queens, people buy them and then never use them. Take your time and you'll find a deal... I bought a 5 year old Tracker that had been totaled by the guy's insurance for cosmetic damage in a storm, saved 10Koff KB, and I'm still running the piss out of it 15 years later. Ugly as sin, but runs like a champ. Plus 1 for the larger motor too, if you ever want to fish Lee's Ferry, you'll want and need the extra go.
brent Report post Posted 1 hour ago I had that size tracker with a 40hp. I would not consider anything less than that and would prefer the 50hp. You will get beat up and swamped by pleasure boaters or a windy day in that sized boat. If you want something more comfort oriented, then the tacker Deep V series might be better. NOTAGS Report post Posted 1 hour ago I totally agree with the V hull recommendation for sure..... much smoother ride, drier ride on rough days
Swivelhead Report post Posted 43 minutes ago Depending on your tow rig, available COVERED boat storage space, I recommend no less than an 18' boat. Wide beam is a plus. The lakes mentioned get rough at times. A wider, longer boat is a much more stable platform. Substantial horsepower is always a plus. Buying a used boat is the way to go. Likely, a used boat will have electronics, trolling motor, canopy, SS prop(s) anchors, ropes, etc. Pricey items that are often included in a used boat sale. Be patient and you'll find a great boat in the used market. New boat pricing is great motivation to buy used.
