ctafoya Report post Posted yesterday at 03:00 AM Working on a new short action project. Its going to be a lightweight setup. Would you go 6.5PRC or 7WSM? Im leaning for the 6.5. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
L Cazador Report post Posted yesterday at 01:08 PM Why do you need short action? A short action will limit the cartridge length and you could wind up with a long freebore where you will have a long bullet jump. You will also be seating bullets deeper into the case so you can work through magazine and thus reducing powder capacity, velocity and long range performance. A short action works best with short light bullets limiting range effectiveness. Keep all this in mind. Of the two I'd pick the 6.5 which will perform better with the lighter and shorter bullets. Much better choice of bullets. You're only looking at a few ounces more for a long action why not go that way?
thegunsmith2506 Report post Posted yesterday at 01:15 PM I would really consider the .270wsm over the 7. It does very well in a short action with a short barrel.

Ernesto C Report post Posted yesterday at 01:59 PM Well, since you asked...if you are going to reload, how about the 6.5 WSM. Ask Red Rabbit he has one :)
PRDATR Report post Posted 18 hours ago 6.5 PRC all day long but not in a short action if you are going to reload. The Hornady factory 147 ELD is about as good as it gets. Hard to improve on that. It is way more accurate than most people behind the trigger. The better the optics can get you clean kills past 800 yards. Whatever action you choose it will need a magnum bolt face.
