Urban snakes

Recommended Posts

Coaght another night snake in the yard. Had a 4ft bullsnake a few weeks ago. Construction is driving them into the hood. My wife is displeased he is in a bucket inside the bathtub so I can relocate him tomorrow. I have a soft spot for snakes.

Cool snake!  He's now part of your rodent reduction force!

My neighbors called in a panic because there was a snake it their pool skimmer. I went over and pulled this little fella out. I think it's a groundsnake (Sonora semiannulata according to the online field guide Reptiles and Amphibians of Arizona). Groundsnake seems like a weird name for a snake, kinda like naming a bird and airbird. : )

Apparently goundsnakes eat insects ans scorpions so my other neighbor was happy to have it released in his back yard.

Definitely a ground snake.  When I was in grad school road cruising for Mohave rattlesnakes for my research, I used to run into these.  There are at least three different color morphs and I found all three in a mile stretch of road one night out near Vulture Mine (Vulture Mine Road?).  Love those little guys.

Pretty snake. Reminds me of a Corn Snake. I had lots of snakes as a kid. One year my dad suprised me with a 4' Florida Indigo that he probably ordered out of the back of Outdoor Life.

I fed it Garter Snakes.

Man this brought back a great memory. I remember the first time I found a night snake, I was in my teens.  He was a very young , fisty little guy. I snuck him in the house and then he got out of the tank somehow. Eventually had to tell my parents and they lost theirs minds.... lol

Cool little snakes, usually very Docile.

*^*^Update for the total for the night  on our drive.... 5 total

Also saw a small sidewinder on the road tonight too. He got shoed off cause I've been told their population is declining... not sure if that is true or not.... but I don't see them as much as I used to so it made sense  to me.  Then not even a quarter  mile later, I saw a long nose snake that didn't make it across the road . And I didn't get any pictures unfortunately.  Next time...

1 Gopher - dead

1 Night Snake - dead

2 side winders - 1 dead 1 alive

1 long nose - dead
