Coues79 Report post Posted July 20, 2010 Fill out a regular application just like normal. If you are one of the first come, they will issue you a tag and mail it to you. To know if you were drawn, give it at least a couple days to call and ask the ladies if you were able to snag one up. They have to manually search, its not automated like the normal draw. There will be a ton of applications going in so a lot to process. If you don't get one, they will return your application to you, opened with a stamp on it that says "unsuccessful hunt filled", with your check or money order. Hope this helps you out. Outdoor Writer Report post Posted July 20, 2010 so my main question is can i drop it off in the box first thing in the morning august second or do i HAVE to mail it in. thanks in advance! You MUST mail it. They won't accept drop-off or walk-ins for leftovers until Aug. 9. "There are two methods to obtain a leftover tag. Applications will be accepted by mail only beginning at 8 a.m. (MST) on Aug. 2. After Aug. 9 at 8 a.m. (MST), hunters can obtain a leftover tag in person by filling out an application at any of the seven Arizona Game and Fish Department offices. A list of office locations is available at www.azgfd.gov/offices."
HaYen Report post Posted July 21, 2010 I find it interesting how all of the southern units have left over tags. I'll try the 20B ML hunt
couesdiehard Report post Posted July 21, 2010 A lot of factors go in to most of the leftover tags being in the southern units. Many years ago they issued 8/9000 WT tags for the south half of the state, you could hunt in any of over a dozen units. Then they started issuing hunt and unit specific tags. Then they have increased the amount of tags issued on these WT hunts several times. Most recently they added the 4th hunt in most of these units when there were historically 3 in each. Then you throw in all the border nonsense that scares away most of the less than fanatic WT hunters and you have a recipe for annual leftover tags down south. mr.smith Report post Posted July 21, 2010 I find it interesting how all of the southern units have left over tags. I'll try the 20B ML hunt I think the high numbers of whitetail tags in the southern units is what results in the leftovers, not border issues. Otherwise there would be leftover muley tags down there too, and that just doesn't happen.
