Locked bucks, One alive and one eaten?

Recommended Posts

Saw this video on fb this morning and thought I would share.

I'd have a hard time believing the live buck could have had enough force to lock up with an existing dead buck but it seems even more unlikely that scavengers would go after the dead buck and not even scratch the live buck!

Alternate ideas of what happen here?

I would assume they were locked up while alive but who knows.

My question is will the deer survive the winter after not eating/drinking for however many days he was stuck.

I imagine they locked up alive and then one buck died and was scavenged by avian scavengers like turkey vultures, crows, ravens, eagles. That's what a carcass looks like when they pick it clean and I have seen it happen within a few hours, not days. Neat video, thanks for sharing it!

That definitely makes the most sense but I still wonder how other land scavengers weren't attracted to the site after enough avian scavengers were swooping down and feasting!

Crazy to imagine what that live buck experienced regardless!

I would have tried to break the skull to keep the horns intact or maybe even cut a tine off of the live buck, he can grow another one! Haha

Cool video though.

You're supposed to cut the antler off the live buck so you can keep the fully intact rack off the dead buck! Cool video... Thx!
