My savage 22-250 load development

Recommended Posts

Gun- savage model 12 22-250 scope 6.5x20x50 LR vxiii varmit.

Loading 50grain z-max with varget, 210m.

I was pumped when I first got the gun and knew it had potential because it was shooting the factory Winchester right at 1moa at 100yrds.

Pretty sure the winner is 34grains:)

Last photo is factory win during break in at 100yrdspost-3282-0-13449200-1405211479_thumb.jpgpost-3282-0-55207600-1405211499_thumb.jpgpost-3282-0-05389300-1405211528_thumb.jpgpost-3282-0-50263200-1405211550_thumb.jpg

Anyone else shoot more than 3 shots to determine initial group size? Do not mean to hijack thread, but I am thinking I shoot too much. I usually load atleast 6 rounds of each powder combo before I rule a group good or bad.

As Casey stated, maybe you pulled the last shot on 36 and that would have been your best group of them all.

Given that rifle has a 12 twist a heavier bullet may work better. I have a model 12 and an axis that both shoot the 69gr Sierra Match kings into one little hole. 35 - 36gr of Reloader 17 pushed them right around 3350fps and seemed to be the sweet spot. Both rifles would hold half moa out to 800 yards. I know sierra recommends a 10 twist but the 12 seems to work just fine.

I've done 3,4,5 it just depends. Normally I will revisit best groups and reshoot at 5 to 10 threw chrono as well.
