Ground squirrels, good eats?

Recommended Posts

Just ask muledeerarea33, I am pretty sure that is part of his diet. He really likes road kill crow and hard boiled vulture eegs for breakfast. And he can't get enough of fried possum uterus and javilena milk fer lunch. Anyways he'd be the one to ask.

It's probably 100% mental, but I have no problem eating tree squirrels, rabbits for that matter. Something about ground squirrels just seems dirty - like they're diseased rodents. I shoot 'em all the time and wouldn't eat one unless my life depended on it. Same with Jack Rabbits (why are cotton tails OK?). I did try to eat a jack rabbit one time and it was like eating boot leather - maybe just trying to cook it over a fire made it so bad.

I can't really say anything about eating tree squirrels, haven't tried those. But I guess if my survival would depend on it, then why not. For catching those a simple humane rat catcher from this article would be okay I think.
