Nichols Guiding Service

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am starting a new section in the forum to highlight our sponsors. Each month I will do a write-up about a sponsor to help provide you all with more information about them.

Please remember to support those businesses that support CouesWhitetail.com.

This month we are starting with........

Nichols Guiding Service

Jarred Nichols has been a full-time, year-round outfitter for 16 years now. He has a group of about 10 guys that guide for him and they are all family and friends, so this is a dedicated, close-knit business. They guide for Coues deer, mountain lion, elk, bear, antelope and bighorn sheep in Arizona. They tend to have from 10-20 plus hunters a year as clients. Unlike many other outfitters, they do a lot of lion hunting, so if you are looking to get a lion in addition to other big game, give Jarred a call. They specialize in hunting lions on dry ground without any need for snow. They have an excellent string of riding and packing mules that they use to travel the canyons, bluffs and ridges while looking for lion tracks.

Nichols Guiding Service can provide fully outfitted hunts or just the guiding service, it’s up to the hunter. Jarred says “On our outfitted hunts we provide camps that can range from wall tents to travel trailers, our ranch house is in unit 23 and we hunt directly out of it. We also have several other ranch houses that our good friends let us use depending on the unit. We provide all meals, and we eat extremely well, for example dutch oven roast and potatoes one night, then steaks with beans, salad, garlic bread and a cold beer the next. We also provide transportation on the hunt, hunting guide, cleaning and packing out of game, along with trophy prep.”

They guide archery hunters as well as rifle hunters. They have mules available for packing in and out of areas. They really only guide in Arizona, although he is licensed in NM as well. No Mexico hunts either. He says he finds the Mexico Coues hunt conflicts with prime lion hunting in AZ. So their real focus is on hunting in Arizona.

Whether you are looking for a big trophy, or just a good, representative animal, Jarred will match the hunt to what you want. “We have had many hunters take record book animals over the years. We always strive to have our hunters take the best quality animals we can find. Some of our best to date include a Coues deer at 126”, an archery Bull at 411”, a Lion with a skull at 15 6/16”and a bear with a skull at 21 7/16”. However, some of the most memorable hunts have been watching youngsters on his or her first hunt enjoying every second of the trip or with hunters that could care less about a record book.”

Success rates are very high with their clients. Here are some photos of some nice animals taken. There are many more photos on their website.

“Our goal on our hunts is to be very honest with each and every hunter, not guarantee them that they will kill a 120” Coues or a 400” bull just so they will book. We will give it a 100% on each hunt to locate the best animal we can take. To keep a full time outfitting business running it is very important that we take quality animals year after year. We want everyone to enjoy their hunt from start to finish and hopefully take home that trophy they have been looking for and come back and hunt with us again sometime down the road.”

You can check out their website and view some of the animals their hunters have taken at www.nicholsguidingservice.com . If you have any questions you can email or call. Since they are out scouting or hunting a lot, it might take them a day or two to get back to you. Ask them for a list of references from previous clients.

Everyone feel free to post any questions you have about Nichols Guiding Service. I think Jarred will come on and answer questions. If not, I can find out the answer and post it.

And if you check their website you can see they have a couple DVDs they have made with some excellent animals.

You can purchase the DVDs through them.
