Dan says he hasn’t had this buck scored yet, but will let us know when he does.
Gino Wullkotte 2004 and 2005
Jan 2004 and Jan 2005
Gino says he got these two Coues bucks within 366 days. The top buck is his fourth and largest Coues buck. He grosses about 98 and should net about 95 P & Y. With 18” main beams and a 15′ inside spread he is a pretty cool buck. Gino had passed him up at 10 yds right at daybreak and decided to take him at 10:30 when he came back by. The shot was 18 yds and the buck only made it about 50 yds after the shot. Gino saw five different bucks that morning and was waiting for a bigger one that they had seen in there the day before, but just could not pass up such a good buck twice.
The bottom two pics show his Jan 04 buck that scored 90 P&Y net.
Jason Scarbroe 2005
Jan 2005
Arizona
Jason got this huge-bodied 4 x 4 (90 1/8″ gross green) buck with a 25 yard shot with his bow. Jason’s friend, Gino, got some nice bucks too.
Grant Fish 2005
Jan. 22, 2005
Unit 29, AZ
The buck was shot at 25 yards out of a treestand in Unit 29. The story was posted in the bowhunting section in the discussion forum. He scores 105″ gross as a 4×3 plus eyeguards.
Grant also got a nice buck last year.
Mitch McInelly 2000
Dec 30, 2000
Unit 31, AZ
This buck won the 3rd award in the 23rd recording period for Pope and Young. It was originally scored at 102 7/8, but later panel scored and revised to 100 1/8 (gross 104 4/8).
The inside spread was 15 1/8″ and the outside spread was 18 1/8″.
This buck was the 5th buck Mitch saw that day. He shot him at 10 yards from a treestand on a game trail. Mitch says this one was a “once in a lifetime” buck.
Mark Lucas 2004
Dec 2004
Mark got this awesome buck from a treestand and it gross scores about 112 inches! You can read more about his hunt in the discussion forum.
The bottom picture shows a photo of his buck taken by a trail camera he had set up near his stand.
Gavin Weller 2004
August 28, 2004
Canelo Hills, AZ
This buck is unique in the way its main beams rise up rather than out. This was an old buck and gross scored 100 4/8, net 97 7/8.
Larry Maniag 2005
Jan 2005
Unit 23, Arizona
Larry got this buck from a treestand with a 15 yard shot. Larry has gotten 3 archery bucks in the last 3 years!
Robert Gray 2004
August 2004
(galiuro mountain man in forum)
Unit 32, Arizona
Robert got this excellent buck with his bow. Although he made a great shot, he wasn’t able to find the buck until about 4 days later. Robert walked many, many miles searching for his kill. Eventually he found the buck by following some drag marks into some thick manzanita. A bear had dragged his buck in there.
The buck was still in velvet when he shot it, but since he found it several days later, the velvet needed to be taken off.
I got to score this buck and here are some of the measurements:
Inside Spread | 13 2/8 | |
RT antler | LFT antler | |
main beam | 15 2/8 | 15 4/8 |
1st point | 2 5/8 | 2 3/8 |
2nd point | 6 6/8 | 6 6/8 |
3rd point | 5 3/8 | 5 0/8 |
1st circum. | 4 0/8 | 4 0/8 |
Gross score | 98 2/8 | |
Net score | 97 2/8 |
Larry Maniag 2003
2003
Unit 22, Arizona
Larry took this nice buck with a 12 yard shot. This buck was taken from the same treestand where he took a nice buck the following summer. Photos of that buck are on here.
Ray Loya 2004
Sept 4, 2004
Unit 31, Arizona
Ray and his son Michael glassed up this buck at first light, over a mile away. They watched him for 2 hours before he bedded. Then Ray snuck in and took the buck with one shot from 50 yards.
Larry Maniag 2004

Jeff says this really nice 2×3 plus eyeguards has 18″ beams and an 18″ spread.
Danny Hallcock 2004
Sept 4, 2004
Unit 24A, Arizona
Here is a photo of one of my favorite huntin’ buddies with his archery kill. Danny, who shoots for PSE, got this one from a ground blind during some very windy, rainy weather. Danny was originally up in a tree stand, but came down to get out of the weather a little. Eventually two bucks came by and he shot this one. This buck nets about 87 inches.
Shane Howard
I didn’t get any details on the year or location of this hunt, but if I do I will post them.
Matt Moul 2004
January 2004
This was Matt’s first Coues buck taken with a bow. You can read his hunt story.
Jerry Hathcock
Unit 27, Arizona
Jerry got all three of these Coues deer with his bow. The smallest one scores in the high 90’s and the largest nets about 113. Jerry grunts and rattles Coues bucks into bow range most every year.
George Alcorta 2004
Jan 2004
Southern Arizona
George stalked in to fifty yards and put in a good shot on this buck. He went about 80 yds before going down. He grosses around 111 and nets about 107.
Andy Knowlton 2004
Jan. 1, 2004
Andy shot this buck in unit 32 on new years day. He glassed him up with 3 does and watched them bed. Then he snuck into 30 yards and blew and a fawn bleat and the buck stood up and gave Andy a quartering away shot. Andy’s arrow completely passed through the buck and killed him quickly.
Tom Argyros
Jan. 30, 2004
Tom glassed up this buck about 800 yards away (using equipment he bought from CouesWhitetail.com!). He proceeded to stalk within about 80 yards. The buck was tending a doe and Tom closed the gap some more. Tom gave a quick grunt and was able to make a good shot to take this fine buck.
Brian and Grant Fish 2004
Jan 2004
Unit 31, Arizona
Brian, took a buck was at 25 yards after getting to within 100 yards, then rattling him into 25 yards (however, Brian isn’t completely sure the buck came to the rattling or was just coming that way anyway!). He is a 4×4. Brian says this buck isn’t as big as the one he got last Jan., but it’s a still a trophy in his book!
After taking care of Brian’s deer, that evening, his brother, Grant, proceeded to miss two bigger bucks (20 and 30 yards) due to those pesky treelimbs. Monday morning found the brothers looking over another 3×3 (plus 1 eyeguard), a two point and a doe. They watched the doe go over a short saddle while the two bucks lagged behind. They decided to see if they could intercept the bucks at the saddle. They hurried as fast as we could without making too much noise, finally reaching the saddle. They just made it there as the bucks came through. At 40 yards Grant missed under the 3X3. He just trotted a few steps sniffed the ground and lip curled. Now at 45 yards, Grant drilled him. He only travelled 30 yards before going down. He is a real pretty buck with only one eyeguard.
Total in two days hunting these brothers saw 13 bucks, the largest would have scored well over 100. The bucks were chasing does all over the place. Not bad for a two day hunt!
Ruben Campos 2004
Jan. 2, 2004
Unit 37B, Arizona
This is Ruben’s first Coues with a bow. He got it with a 50 yard shot. Congratulations Ruben!
Mike Udall 2003
Dec 20, 2003
Unit 22, Arizona
Mike shot this buck from his treestand at about 8:30 in the morning. It was about 15 minutes behind a doe that had come in for some salt. Mike sits very high in his treestands and his arrow had a very steep angle for the 15 yard shot. The arrow grazed the spine, went through a lung and punctured the heart. The deer dropped on the spot. It’s a nice 4×4 that had a very swollen neck.
Nick Knute 2001
Sept. 2001
Unit 23, Arizona
Nick was with a friend and they were driving when he spotted 2 bucks. They decided to park and stalk the two. They split ways and Nick’s friend ended up spooking the deer toward him. For some reason the deer decided to stop less than ten feet from Nick. When he made the shot the buck dropped to the ground then ran 40 yards from where he arrowed him. Nick used a PSE bow and a Primos grunt call.
Nick says this 4×4 buck unofficially scores 120 with an 18.5 inch inside spread.
