Scope choices ?

Recommended Posts

I really like nightforce NSX 5.5-22x50 MOAR reticle !

Solid choice. I went with the gunwerks version because I'm not a fan of exposed windage turrets and there reticle is cleaner to my eyes. They are heavy pricks but repeatability is worth it to me. There glass isn't the best out there but it is clear enough for my young eyes. $2500 is a respectable budget and remember most high end scopes come with lifetime transferable warranties so don't be afraid of buying used to save some cash.

When I was doing my build, it came down to two scopes. The nightforce atacr, and the razor gen2. I love them both but chose the razor because I liked the reticle better. You cant go wrong with a nightforce.

I did GW too. Also have their BR2 rangefinder. I do like that too. 1400yds read back with dial info. There is one on here BR2 for sale, 1,300 bucks. good price for good equip.

I had a big response typed out at work...then hit the "back" button and lost it all.

Don't forget to budget for a high quality 20MOA Picatinny base, good rings, and an anti-cant level. In the neighborhood of $250-400.

In a nutshell in no particular order:

Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27x56 w. EBR-1c $2500

Steiner T5Xi 5-25x56 w. SCR $1999

March 2.5-24x52 $2508

Swarovski Z6 5-30x50 $2469

Kahles K624i Gen II 6-24x56 w. MSR $2399

Minox ZE5-I 5-25x56 $1869

Sightron SIII 6-24x50 $849

Nightforce Enhanced ATACR 5-25X56 $2399

Athlon Chronos 4.5-29x56 $1699

Sig Sauer Tango 6 5-30x56 $2499

A lot of these are FFP scopes, so miss that criteria. But all are great scopes that would serve you well. There are a few others that would top my list, but they top your budget too, by $300-5000 depending on model.

Schmidt & Bender PMII

Tangent Theta

Premier Reticles (only used are available now)

Hensoldt

Kahles K624i Gen III (one of my two favorite scopes I own)

Zeiss Victory DL

Zeiss Victory V8

Swarovski X5/X5i

US Optics

Leupold Mark 8

I was torn between two options wanting to have exposed turrets to dial shots and wanting the clear glass and not a complicated reticle to get in the way. I contacted eurooptic and talked to Jason and decided on a swaro x5i. I am very pleased at this decision and would love to have a second one but at this point it is alot of money. I also was looking at a ffp scope but never looked through one it is the Kahles 624I as suggested by Lance I would like to use one and try it but went with swaro because there is no question on the optic quality I would be getting and at full power which is were I will shoot after 300 yards it will dial the same as a ffp.

Mil or Moa was another option with other scopes and I went with moa as that is all they offer on x5i.

As I go and shoot my Vortex Pst ffp scope at the same time both work well but there is no comparison between optic quality.

as for rings i would like to try but do not own the burris xtr with the shims so you can -20 and +20 and you could get 40 moa out of that with flat rail

I put the 3.5x18x50 x5 on my weatherby and have been super happy with it its pricey but so far worth the money

Don't forget the Nightforce SHV and Bushnell LRHS. The Nightforce can be had in sfp with MOAR and IHR reticle in MOA or ffp in MOA and mills.

The Bushnell is only ffp and mills but worth a look.

Also, if you can live with ffp and mills this is a heck of a deal.....

Am also in this same debate of a new scope. The Sigtron S111 has caught my eye. From what I hear it competes with Vortex vipers, and Leupold 4 but has Nightforce glass comparison. Sounds good but it doesn't have zero stop on it. But the price around 850 sounds good. Also Midway has the Leupold 6 on sale for 1200 dollars. But am also debating to just bite the bullet and buy a Kahles and get everything I want. Seems like they have it all and your not busting 3k
