CatfishKev Report post Posted Wednesday at 11:15 PM Tried a couple double hook rigs this past weekend (flathead fishing) and never had much luck with them. I noticed my bluegills were dyeing pretty fast compared to 90% of my fishing with one hook. I'm thinking the lines are getting twisted too much by the time they hit the bottom leaving the live bait no room to move around and breathe. I'm thinking about a new set up with a super short line bait close to the swivel where the slide sinker is and leaving the main leader 18-24" for the live bluegill. I'm thinking the dead bait short line will still leave enough for a fish to grab it and not feel the weight while the live bait can swim a bit and stay more lively. I've always pretty much always done single hook per rod because of this just wondering what y'all might have to interject. Thanks
idgaf Report post Posted Thursday at 12:06 AM I learned this from the guide when i was kayak fishing anchovies . Standard Carolina rig, a free untied hook, silicone slide through stopper and then the tied second. Adjust the slide/stopper to the length of the bait. Put the free hook through the nose/mouth and the tied hook behind the dorsal.

I'm looking to rig a live bait that can swim freely but still have a dead bait close to the slide sinker. My thought is live bluegill on a long leader and cut bait like chicken liver or bluegill cut in half on maybe only maybe a 2 inch leader like maybe on a triple swivel. Trying to hedge my bets between the chance at a big fatty but don't want to miss an opportunity at a good eating channel cat.
wildwoody Report post Posted Thursday at 05:51 AM Second one is ugly. Why do you need 2 bluegill on one line, use more poles. They probably where the little hearts try to pull each other around.

I thought you wanted to double hook a blue gill
trphyhntr Report post Posted Thursday at 08:41 PM You want to double hook rig and put a blue gill on the front hook and cut bait on the back hook? Something like that falls under a technique called an N word rig.

PRDATR Report post Posted Thursday at 10:03 PM With the setup you are looking at how far apart will the two be? Two feet, six feet?

We will be, fishing flatheads is a boring game and always more fishing then catching . looking to just add a bit of fun with some channel cat potential. Thinking 18-24" live bait leader with a triple swivel up top and maybe a 4" leader for cut bait off the swivel. I'm thinking this will keep the live bait alive longer. Maybe a straight 24" since there's lots of weeds now
