CatfishKev Report post Posted October 22 Tried a couple double hook rigs this past weekend (flathead fishing) and never had much luck with them. I noticed my bluegills were dyeing pretty fast compared to 90% of my fishing with one hook. I'm thinking the lines are getting twisted too much by the time they hit the bottom leaving the live bait no room to move around and breathe. I'm thinking about a new set up with a super short line bait close to the swivel where the slide sinker is and leaving the main leader 18-24" for the live bluegill. I'm thinking the dead bait short line will still leave enough for a fish to grab it and not feel the weight while the live bait can swim a bit and stay more lively. I've always pretty much always done single hook per rod because of this just wondering what y'all might have to interject. Thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
idgaf Report post Posted October 23 I learned this from the guide when i was kayak fishing anchovies . Standard Carolina rig, a free untied hook, silicone slide through stopper and then the tied second. Adjust the slide/stopper to the length of the bait. I'm looking to rig a live bait that can swim freely but still have a dead bait close to the slide sinker. My thought is live bluegill on a long leader and cut bait like chicken liver or bluegill cut in half on maybe only maybe a 2 inch leader like maybe on a triple swivel. Siwash Report post Posted October 27 Consider the double egg loop set up. It's commonly used for salmon/steelhead but would work for what you want...rig the first one on your leader then leave 2-3' of tag end and rig the last hook...or vice versa...tie on one hook at the end of a long leader then add your second hook at the interval needed in front of your swivel connection. Usually the hooks are 3-4" apart but there is no reason you couldn't run the rig in the fashion you are describing: https://www.101knots.com/egg-loop-knot.html or do the same with two snell knots: https://www.animatedknots.com/snell-knot It's been a LONG time but when I fished the Salt for Cats I'd run the double egg loop with two 4/0 circle hooks baited with chicken liver on a 3' leader tied to a swivel with a slider swivel on my main line with a 6" dropper of 3-6 ounce pyramid weight and it caught fish. Been a long time since we've been fishing, tied my Palomar wrong and lost the first fish but we got the kinks worked out past few weekends. Last nite was our best night.
