Knife sharpening

Recommended Posts

I picked up one of these work sharp sharpeners from Sheels.  It works good, but i wish it wasn’t plastic.

anyone else have any other favorite ways to sharpen a knife?

I have an old Frost Blademaster honing kit I still use (not sure if they're even made anymore). Same general idea as the one you have in the picture with different angles for the guide rod and 3 different stones. It's worked well for me over the years. The only modification I did was to attach the handle base to a block of aluminum that I can clamp in my bech vise so it's much more solid. Aside from being plastic, how do you like the one you pictured?

I like the fact that you can adjust the angle of the stone with precision.  It is simple to use, almost foolproof.  It just seems kind of cheaply built.  I could see breaking the clamp screw that  holds the blade.

I have four of these in my shop with varying grit. Buffers, grinders and wire wheels.

Incredibly blessed .

Do you just control the angle by hand or do you use a jig?

I guesstimate the angles but this set is adjustable.

Chefs Choice electric that has three different wheels. Works great for kitchen knives. I was never good at using a stone. I can only get a knife so sharp with one which is never really sharp enough.

I have an outdoor edge with the replaceable blades which eventually get the job done but doesn't take the place of a real knife.

I have the one first posted, it works for medium sized blades, smaller knives you can’t get the edge of the blade out far enough from the clamp it’ll start grinding down the clamp itself and not even touch the blade. Some of my bigger knives the clamp doesn’t get a good enough bite it’ll turn the blade as your trying to sharpen. For medium sized blades it seems to work fairly well isn’t great for 6”+ blades or the smaller ones that don’t have much backbone to clamp onto

I have the Grizz posted with a couple of modifications.

I think it's too high RPM for sharpening myself.
