Why is what the azgfd scores it so important to you?

Why wouldn't. Everything to them is about class. When the bone heads scored my sons they said it was 7.5yrs old and class 3 WRONG. Went to Gary Barcom with big horn sheep society said its 9.5yrs old and class 4, way off. And cheated him on 5 inches. And trophy I've heard you say your score a couple times, and its a beautiful ram in your avatar. Did you not get told your class and was it accurate ? So Andrew yes they suck and they don't care. They also missed my bear age by 3 yrs. Don't think they care. Like there tags you can't peal. 3rd graders could do better. My opinion.

Anyone know why they don’t pull teeth and have them aged that way?  Similar to bears and Kiabab deer?  I think that may be more beneficial for management than scoring?  Thoughts?

Cheated out of what exactly? Just get it scored officially Boone and Crockett, that’s the only score that matters. Everyone is guessing to the best their ability on the age.

Can I ask how you determined the correct age of a bear they missed?  I’m seriously asking because only way I know is slicing the tooth and counting rings - did you take a tooth and do a different study or are you saying the biologist said one age and the tooth report shared a difference of 3 years?
thanks.

The age ring, any Bighorn except can tell you in a second. There's a couple on here im sure. Post horn pics they'll tell you. Some very knowledgeable people, unlike myself.

Aging sheep off of their horn annuli is much much more accurate then cementum annuli.

Thank you for the explanation.  I did not know that was the case.

Now you got me confused. You can tell it’s a ram from your inventory, by reading the score of one killed? Not a picture, the score? That’s incredible.

It’s more than that. They report bases size each horn, length of each horn, overall width, overall score and age. So yeah, with let’s say the 4 biggest rams in an area, all unique and different sizes in different ways, some broomed on the left, others on the right, one super long, one thin on mass, I have been able to tell in this situation, confirmed eventually by pictures. But the less reliable the measurements, well you get the idea.

Also for records sake, it would be nice to rely on a 162 being 162 and not really 165. The whole premise of score in the first place is a consistent, comparable measuring system not dependent on time and place, otherwise let’s just go back to subjective small, medium, large, giant and call it good. I know not everybody is interested in scores and the nuances of the accuracy and comparisons on game, but I think it’s pretty interesting and fun.
