My son's first archery buck

Recommended Posts

My son Austin took this buck on December 29th just before the big cold spell, in unit 28. It is his first archery kill, he used a Mathews SoloCam Classic.

Take a look at the antlers on this rascal. Maybe damaged in the velvet?

They actually brought this buck into archery range away from his does by raking a tree. The deer were in the open about 120 yards out and the boys were as close as they could get, so Austin's friend Joey who was back about 20 yards behind Austin started raking a tree. Without hesitation the buck came straight in and Austin sent a rage broadhead through his vitals when the buck hung up at 79 yards.

Near vertical hillside the buck died on.

Now we're off tomorrow to decimate the local javelina herd.

BTW, save a couple of those bristle pigs! Big Bry and I will be down there going all trad in a few weeks and we'll need some pigs left dumb enough to approach with cap-n-ball Hawkins and my 1858 Remington as backup when we miss!
