Need help identifying this skull

Recommended Posts

I found this while out for a walk in the desert today. The two hollow protrusions resemble possibly horns. The odd thing is that they are behind the brain cavity.

Thier is a nickle sized cylindrical peice of very hard bone or enamel inside what could be a now deformed mouth. The skull appears to be very old.

my guess would be domestic goat....horns seem too close together for antelope. Not sure why you think that's not the brain case, but it sure looks like a normal location for the brain case to me. You are missing the front half of the skull. what you posted as view from the back, would be view from front....

If it is a goat I feel pretty stupid... but the size of the horn bases in relation to the rest of the skull doesn't seem quite right. The overall size is about that of a softball. I see now what you are saying Amanda and that is the view from the front, pygmy goat!
