Euro Mount

Recommended Posts

I am guessing this has been asked and answered before but I couldn't seem to find it. I am working on doing a Euro for my Coues deer this year and I just about have it all cleaned and ready to be coated with.......... What do you guys suggest using to seal the skull with. I did my elk from last year with modge podge and it seemed like it came out TOO white. Just curious to see what else people have tried that they liked. I was thinking about using a polyurethane clear coat but wanted to get someone elses opinion first.

I just finished up one.

I use the 40 volume creme developer mixed with some whitening powder from Sallys beauty supply.

Here is the paste you can use the clear also

I coat it on real thick letting it get into all cavities and cracks in the bone, then cover in saran wrap and placed in front of a heater. (It will foam up)

I leave it on for a bout 12-24 hrs, then rinse it off let skull dry for a day and did a 2nd coat. Keep doing this until you reach desired color.

Make sure you have skull degreased really well or the yellow will come back through the bone.

I use a European skull bleaching kit from Sportsman's warehouse, I've done three coues, two muley, and one elk head. They came out awesome but for some reason the three whitetail skulls came out the best.

Rageinthesage- are you using an oil or water based polyurethane.

Ill have to try these other ideas out on the next project.

Ill post up some pictures of the elk I did last year with the modge podge and of the coues as soon as I finish it.

I use Dreft semigloss wood, metal finish from home depot or Lowes. I'm not sure if it is oil based out not.
