Goulds With My Name On Him

Recommended Posts

Headed down to Unit 29 tomorrow to chase goulds for my third time here in AZ. There is one down there with my name on him and he just doesn't know it yet :). This time just taking the bow. Darr's and Jay's video has got me all anxious to get down there. Going to be a blast again.

Here are my last two goulds. One from '09 and the other from '11. Hopefully one more to add this weekend.

Brian

Best of luck Brian. Take lots of pictures. Them two birds you have there are very nice ones. :)

Big Tub, I'm going too. If I don't kill one, I don't kill one. Won't hurt my feelings at all if I don't. It's archery or bust.

I just had my first goulds hunt last weekend in 35a it is a different game than merriams. The first Gould I saw and heard gobble was the one I shot oppening morning with my xbow. Your 11 birds beard looks thick! How were the spurs on them?

Big congrats on your bird! Yeah, that '11 Tom was a big bird with a big thick beard. Both birds had spurs between 7/8" and 1".

Brian I'm a little jealous! I hunted 29 a lot and love calling those turkeys in. What a hoot! Good luck to you!

Wow that lucky or what? I was told goulds normally don't have much for spurs that's why only need half inch between the two for the books. The one I shot had 7.5 inch beard and only one spur like 1/4. Do they differ from unit to unit ?

I've always heard the same as you when it comes to spurs. Maybe it depends on the terrain they live in, that wears them down. I'm not sure. As for different units, I don't know. I've only been in 29 for turkeys. Haven't been in any of the other units that have turkeys. Other people that have, would have to chime in on that one.

Thats awesome! How do you keep drawing tags?!!! I have 12 bonus pts!! I am headed down tomorrow for my first Goulds hunt ever in 35a. My buddy drew the tag. Ive never even seen a Goulds or been in the unit. Does anyone have some super generic info about the turkeys down there that they might like to share? Thx!
