Here is the proper way to hook up 6 Volts

You would hook a battery charger up the same as the red and black wires

(note): on most RVs the positive wire is black

and the negitive wire is white

Thanks, Mike - very helpful!

Maybe I missed this, but what is the advantage to daisy chaining two 6 volt batteries as opposed to using a single 12 volt battery?

6Volt batteries have more and heavier plates.

The plates are where the electricity is stored.

Therefore you are increasing the size of your gas tank.

More miles before refueling.

GH. I have another question for you. As you know my trailer is in forest lakes right now. I did not drain the waterlines when we last used it because we plan on useing again in a couple weeks. The tanks are all empty except the fresh water. When is it going to be to cold in forest lakes to have the water in the lines. I am woried evry day about the lines bursting or the heater cracking. What do you think. should i make a fast day trip from mesa to drain it all or do you think it should be fine for a couple more weeks. I have heard a few folks say it is freezing up there right now. I thought we would be safe for a few more weeks.

It takes a pretty hard freeze to cause damage.

I think you should be OK but I would keep an eye on the weather.

If it is freezing every night without the Temps getting back up during the day you may want to make a run.

I will dig up a winterizeing instruction sheet and post it when I get back to my shop.

That would be good info for some but the location that we store it at requireas us to be off in the first week of november so it will be back down here until next season. We will still camp in it all winter but i will have to haull it from here to the sites we use. Thanks for all your help with your RV knowledge for us. I was going to do the update on the recall for my fridge but have not had the time too so i guess i will have it done this winter some place.

GH I do not know if i asked you this yet or not. When it rained on us last time. some drips were forming on the crank handle on the inside of the Television antena. The wire was my first thought but the wire runs over uner the vent for the fridge and goes down and is siliconed up as well. The water seemed to just pool up on the base plate of the antena its self, So i cut a few canels in the silicone so it can drain. It would have like half an inch of water setting on it. The whole set up is the kind that you crank with the white handle on the inside and you can pull down on the first plate and it will spin the antena around so you can adjust to pick up servic better. I do not even need the antena as we do not use the trailer to watch TV in ya know. but it is there so i need to do something to fix it.

Well first of all, the wire should have been run down right into the roof

under the base plate for the antena.

Thats sounds like they forgot to install it at the factory,

or caught it after the fact.

Second, it sounds like way to much build up of sealant and the water may get high enough to overflow up to the point that it is running down the rotate shaft.

You said silicon??

What type of roof is it?

Rubber, Fiberglass, Metal? It should be rubber on that unit if I remember right.

Let me know the type of roof and type of sealant.

I think I would strip all the sealant off and reseal it with the right stuff.

Keep in mind that the leak could be anywhere and travel to that point before it drips into the camper.

It is a rubber. It is not like silicon i use in my bathroom renovations but more like a rubbery glue. When i cut the little drain channels it was still very plyable stuff. I will take a look at the other spots on the roof to see if i can find any locations that look like they may need fixing. I show no sighn of leaks on the inside of the unit at all but being a plumber and renovation speacialist i understand water can run along ways and find the smallest littl hole.

The one thing i did while it was leaking during the rain was rais the antena and the watter came in faster. I have two outlets for tv's so maybe the one that goes down the other spot under the vent goes to the tv spot in the front end of the trailer. I may take some photos and post them for you also.

The cable should only go down thru the roof under the base plate.

It goes to the main living area and then splits to provide TV to the bedroom.

It sounds like you may have the right stuff to seal the unit but I would still strip it off and reseal it with DICOR.

All you need is a bead to seal the roof to the edge of the base and a little to seal the screws.

I am seeing more and more of the factory flunkies using way to much sealant.

When you get done doing that little reseal job,

would you please let me know how much time it took you?

thanks,

Mike

HEre are som photos of the cable and antena set up. The one you may see the small cuts i made to let the water drain. The other photo is showing a cracked vent top for the fridge and a bad split in the sealant around that. I did not see that before so it just might be coming through that crack.

I am also going to slip some of that hard plastic cable cover over the cable it is getting sun rot very bad. Another question i have is are the trailer covers worth the money. I am woried about my Awning getting sun rot and all the plastic covers on the roof will rot and i will have to replace them all. I know I know always questions.

I dont think it is leaking around the antenna

and yes that is Dicor sealant.

I would think the leak is coming from the fridge vent.

As far as a cover,

You are going to pay at least $400.00 for a cover.

The cost of a replacement awning fabric is $200.00

The roof vents cost about $12.00 and your busted

fridge vent is only about $14.00.

So you could replace everything twice for about the price of a cover.

And they are a pain in the butt to put on and off.

Hey thanks for your help. After seeing that big crack in the sealant on the fridge vent I think that is the place the water is getting in. There is about a foot of sealant that has split along it. When i climbed up to see what was leaking it was raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock. The lightning was just looking for some dumby on a roof to hit. Good to know that the awning material is that cheap. I will not buy the cover in that case. Man i don't care what the word is around the Payson, Star valley area you are a good guy to have around.
