Favorite Headlamp

Recommended Posts

I have a Fenix headlamp and also a Fenix flashlight. I got the charger and use the 3500mA batteries. It is a bit on the heavy side which took some getting used to (made out of aluminum) but I love it.

It has five intensity settings and a sixth which is dual red led's. They have frequent sales and great customer service. I gave my first flashlight away to a friend who needed one and bought my son one. The on/off failed after a couple of years and it would just randomly turn on by itself. I contacted them and sent it back and they replaced the switch for a few bucks.

Zebra lights are pretty sweet.

We use a lot of black diamonds, seems to be one laying around everywhere in our camp.

This year I realized the importance of carrying extra batteries, although we had two extra 4 packs of batteries in one of our packs it was okay, but during the 6-8 hour packout we ran out of juice twice.

I've got zebra, princeton tec, petzl but my favorite is one from XK-glow. Fairly cheap, charge lasts forever, super bright, and adjustable beam.

I've used several different kinds of headlamps, from cheap to expensive. On a wildfire assignment once, I realized I'd forgotten to pack mine, so I grabbed a $12 or $15 Energizer at quick Walmart stop en route. Turned into one of my favorite headlamps ever and its a fraction of the price of Black Diamond, Petzel, and others I've used. I have one on my nightstand, one in my hunting pack, and one in my turkey vest.

So funny that you said this, same thing happened to me and I have a hard time not wearing my energizer. The El Cheapo works great and has the red light for hiking in undetected.
