Let's narrow this 6.5 chamber down (help)

Recommended Posts

Impressive ballistics out of the 6.5x270ai. Almost identical to my .264, which probably shoots a lot more powder.

That is one of my favorite things about Ackley cases. Most of the time you can reach velocities of much larger cases with less powder which also translates into less recoil and cost per round. The no trimming part saves a bunch of time as well.

To get 3,120 fps Im using H1000 60.5 g I got faster speeds up to 3200 fps with other powders such as H4831 but im at a 1" grouping ( still very good) but I wanted high velocity and under 1/2 MOA. I got .60 MOA with a light load of 57 grains at 2,963 fps which is really good with only 57 grains

Im going to try Reload 23 later on to see what velocity I can get but for this year Im sticking with H1000 60.5g with Federal 210 match. Funny I was using CCI 250 and I was flattening out primers like crazy. Federal 210 still had round edges

Mag primers are hotter, but not always needed. How did speeds change with the mag primers vs. large rifle?

I am thinking of using BR-2 in my new .280AI build, but use CCI250M in my .25-06AI now.

I gotcha. That's honestly a very comparable powder charge/velocity i am getting. I'm shooting 62 grns 4831sc at about 3150fps

H1000 60.8 grains CCI 250 Avg. 3115fps

H1000 60.9 grains Federal 210 Match Avg 3120fps

I don't remember why the 0.01 grain difference. I think I messed up on a load instead of taking it apart I just add the other rounds .01 grain more. But comparing it they are the same in very identical. It looks like with 0.01 grain I got 5fps more. Only difference is that my primer didn't flatten as bad nor cause a crater

Stomp did another 6.5-06 AI using IMR4831 I can't remember but around 57-58 grains getting 3170fps under around 1/4 MOA. That's really good I tried it with my mine but mine likes more powder.

Looking back at my notes using IMR 4831 at 59.8 grains I was 3150fps. I didn't put down a MOA number (meaning it wasn't worth writing down the bad grouping)

Sorry the Federal 210 didn't flatten like the CCI 250 did.

Here is my old thread on mine and a pic of my rifle. My rifle shot much better with H4831 than it did with H1000 or Retumbo. It's funny how particular barrels can be.

H4831 regular or SC?

Does the SC make that big of a difference in most people experience? Thanks.

I have used both with no discernible difference in accuracy or velocity at least in this particular cartridge. It's the same stuff, one is just smaller grained. In a larger case with large powder charges load densities may change enough to see a difference but I haven't seen it in my rifle.

Only difference i've noticed is sc is a lot easier to load. Regular h4831 single granules of powder weigh almost 1/10 of a grain

I haven't seen any difference in velocity, only metering is much easier and finer kernel weight.
