Cow elk hunt question

Recommended Posts

I have 3 bonus points for elk, I am looking to put in for a cow tag, simply because I want the meat and I have a solid chance of drawing a tag. With that said, I am thinking about putting in for the early rifle hunts in unit 6a & 7w.

As far as early cow hunts how good are these units? Or should I put in elsewhere.

Appreciate the input!

6a is great for the general cow hunts .we went 4 for 4 on opening day in 2016 2 early morning and 2 late all done by Sunday we had another guy from my friends work up on the hunt and he scored Saturday at the same spot I got mine .It takes a few points and 6 is usually not so good on odds for general it does get better if you do the muzzleloader hunts.

Thanks for the input.
I appreciate it. I didn’t realize it took that many for a general cow tag in 6.

Of course then there’s my friends who drew an early unit 10 bull tag this past year with 0 points

And another who drew a late unit 8 bull tag with 0 points .

Haha hopefully I can draw the cow tag this year.

One more question for advice.

considering my schedule and dates,

Now considering the hunts that start Nov 4 for 3a&3c or 4b

or possibly 1,2b&2c starting Dec 9th.

Are these hunts pretty good as far as success?
Also draw odds.

never hunted these units before except for nearby duck hunting.

It’s cow, put in for a decent hunt and drive around till you see one. You’ll find success

Haha that’s about the truth.
