Flatlander Report post Posted May 2 Maybe it was cause my 77 yo dad lit them up with emails about how ridiculous it would be for him to go hunt with his crossbow while dudes were slinging lead from 700 yds with their creedmores. i had no dog in this fight, but the idea that a crossbow is more similar to a centerfire rifle than a compound is to a traditional bow is kind of silly. Who knows, maybe they will decide to ban long range rifles instead? 😀

It means the department is asking the commission to put on hold the crossbow permit change until they can further evaluate. My guess is the commission will do just that. For 25 years (probably a lot longer than that actually) archery hunters have had the opportunity to hunt while rifle hunters were in the field in some units. It has never been the case that hunting with rifle hunters was the ONLY opportunity.

elkaholic Report post Posted May 6 (CHAMP) The AZGFD may issue a Challenged Hunter Access/Mobility Permit (CHAMP) to a permanently disabled applicant who: Has no more than 10% maximum functional use of one leg, regardless of the functional level of the other leg Has a visual field of no more than 20% in his or her best functioning eye Has vision of 20/200 or less after correction in his8 or her best eye. How does this even apply to the use of a crossbow during an archery hunt. Its about hunting and game retrieval for the nearly total immobile disabled hunter
