Home defense shotgun

Recommended Posts

The way all this Tacticool crap is marketed to us is hilarious. We had a manhunt in our area a dozen years ago and as luck would have it the meth head wound up on our patio. As he tried our front, back doors and various windows there was no working of actions. My wife stood there with my 870 wingmaster loaded with #6 shot and me with my 45 if the poor bastard were to make it in. The little stubby shotshells crack me up. Who thinks about recoil in a situation like this? Just my opinion

12 ga is my top choice as everyone in my house is or will be very familiar with them, and they could also be in the next room.

That said, the revolver dependability of the Judge with five rounds of three-ball #000 buck shot I load isn't something to mess with. I've read the legal consequences of using hand loads is a topic to consider. My 12 ga coyote lead BB loads would be great also.

How many times have you pumped your shotgun in a home invasion and sent people running? You don’t have a round chambered in a life or death situation. Just don’t give advice anymore about self defense

How many  times  have you drawn a gun in a defensive  situation or to stop a threat to yourself or family? Probably  not one time! If you ever do your going  to spend a day at the station  in cuffs . The police are going  to take your guns and probably  could  be charged with  brandishing.

Rock salt rounds were the bean bag round of there day . Not lethal  but enough  to get the job done  . They burn like heck once the penetrant  the skin.

Shoot to kill if you need to but know  your going  to spend  some time in jail and it's going  to cost you.

If the sound of the shotgun has its intended  effect  you will  not need to use it . But by all means use it if you  need  to defend  yourself.

To answer  your question  I've had need of my shotgun  on two occasions  once it was chambered  with buck shot and bird in alternating  rounds and the other just the rack and sight was enough  .

Spent a day at the station  and 3 months  getting  my guns back .

To the op, if you want a shotgun for home defense, buy a tried and true Remington 870 with a 18.5 barrel. Load it with buckshot.   Slugs will over penetrate in a residential environment.  Add a light and red dot for low light.

Remington 780 youth 20G. Load it with #2 lead and it's easy to handle. #2 at close range will hurt and in the face UGLY UGLY UGLY also not much structural damage.

Well the day they were looking for the guy in our area I actually had to go find him because BPs dogs couldn’t pick up his scent! (Thats a whole other level of absurdity) I simply walked out 100 yards and found the guy in the grass under a mesquite and of course shaking i brandished the 45. There were 3 agencies and probably 50 guys looking for him and nobody with BP, DPS or Cochise county ever even wanted to look at any of my guns. Honestly they all probably didn’t want to deal with me much at that point. It was a true case of just a bunch of Barney Fifes out here sadly!

I dont even post very often, but I have so say that I became just a little dumber having just read that. Every post you’re making is making me wonder if you’re a Russian bot or something.

I do think that many don’t think of the repercussions if you do kill or wound someone especially outside when it may or may not be self defense. What shook me up a bit was when I read a story of a guy who shot an unarmed douche who broke into his house. No criminal charges but the family of the intruder sued him civilly. Dont remember the specifics but the whole ordeal but it cut deeply into his net worth defending himself. Scary stuff all the way around

You’re right. I should have said “might” hurt someone. The .410 would probably bounce off a human passed 15 feet
