tomharveyb Report post Posted May 21 Hi CWT members. I am considering applying for one of the one horn ram hunts. I qualify, and am sure odds of drawing are better than the general hunts. Of course , I have no idea what the odds are, but I’m guessing pioneer licenses are a lot less than general hunt licenses. What I’m wandering is how many one horned rams are out there? Needle in proverbial haystack? I got my desert sheep 15 years ago and looked over 56 Rams and never saw one half broken off. For you guys who have been on a lot of sheep hunts, how common is it for a ram to have half of a horn on one side? Any help on this? I don’t have any issue with A ram not being a trophy. HighschoolHunter Report post Posted May 21 Quick reminder if you already got a desert sheep you can only do the 1 horned ram Rocky hunt. I’m sure you knew but just to be sure. I’m guessing on those 1 horned ram hunts you will need to rely heavily on G&F for intel on where exactly the 1 horned ram they want harvested is at. Hopefully when they mail the tag out they also mail out or email a map or something of the general part of the unit/s to find a 1 horned ram, if not I would reach out to the g&f officers for the units and see if they can provide some recon. You are correct it would definitely be a needle in a haystack and on the rocky hunt it looks like every single unit with Rocky’s is open so I would definitely find someone at g&f and poke their brain on where they’ve seen a 1 horned ram in their flyover surveys. HighschoolHunter Report post Posted May 21 If a couesWhitetail member draws one of those tags I hope they share about the experience, I’m really curious how those hunts will pan out.
trphyhntr Report post Posted May 21 There’s a lot of one horned in the kofa apparently. Followed a kids hunt online a couple years ago and he saw a bunch.

Chef Report post Posted May 21 If I had that tag, I would contact all sheep tag holders in the qualifying unit/s, giving them my telephone number.

I would also reach out to guide’s and outfitters who have guided it in the past, those guys can be super helpful and most are happy to share this kind of information. If I was in the position to draw one of these tags I would hire one of the outfitters who hunt multiple units every year. It’s crazy how much some of those dudes know about these herds. Lucafu1 Report post Posted May 21 I knew of a monster unicorn ram that I really considered shooting. He was massive. I wonder if he is still around. Its been 9 years so I would not expect it.
