Check your community college for classes. That education may be worth the investment.

Best friend owns a welding company. But I've told my son if that's what he wants to do after HS, I'd pay for his education.

A business or accounting degree along with the welding and he could own his own business and probably be very successful. If he gets certified welding aluminum then he could repair aircraft frames, apus, boats, etc. It could be very lucrative.

There are many welders that can also be set up to weld aluminum.

Excellent ventilation, skin protection, and the best eye protection are a must!!!! Don't cheap out on those.

Then do your homework on welders from your friend.

Lincoln and Miller make great portable welders.

I have a Bobcat and a Trailblazer. Too bad I'm not a good welder.🤣

But I'm thinking seriously about taking a class at MCC this Fall.

Not in Tucson, but I have one I bought from another member a few years ago that I have never got around to doing anything with. It's a Titanium unlimited 200. Has a cart, bottle, and some odds and ends. I think I'm $400 into it.

Pima has a good program. Friend and his son have taken a few classes there together and enjoyed them.

My shop actually has 220 wired to it. There was a big, old stick welder here when we bought. I gave it to my best friend.

Casey, check my last post in the campfire about dude looking for a job for his nephew. These guys will send him to school and get him in a welding trade where he don't need to put his life on the line the same way you do

Yeah I know. I only mentioned cuz you said if he liked it you would pay for his school. Free school is even better.

Just find and old Hobart/Miller/Lincoln at a good price. A machine that can run gas will give you the most flexibility for sure (not all of them do). A dual voltage machine is a good choice too but cost more money. I love welding, been doing it since I was a freshman in high school. Got my certs in multiple processes and materials. Its definitely a good thing to know.
