What process are you looking at?  SMAW, GTAW, GMAW.?  Retired after 45 years of welding and fab. Buy the best you can afford and save yourself a lot of grief, Most cheap machines have a ton of plastic parts. There is a reason they are cheap. You'll need a AC machine if your thinking about aluminum Tig.

I know reading is tough for you with your grandpa glasses, but "hunt" also isn't a four letter word that begins with F.

Look for a Hobart Handler 140(110v) or 190(220v) used.  Same parent company as Miller...very similar machined...less money.  My Miller 212 just crapped the bed and I went Hobart MP.  Saved a lot and just as good as the Miller or Lincoln from most accounts.

If you decide to go Stck I have a Hobart Tombstone I'd let you borrow to mess around with and buy if he gets hooked.  I have a Bobcat 250 so I don't really use it.

I second the scamazon Yeswelders. When we moved to CG a couple years ago my old buzzbox had just died and got the Yeswelder 135 flux core/stick machine just to have something for the property.

I’m no pro, but after getting better leads and ground clamp I love that little thing! It’s not the Miller or Hobart I use at work, but I’ve gone through about 5lbs of flux core and a couple pounds of 6011 and 7018 in two years, fixing everything from gates to tractor.

i think it’d be hard to find a better bang for the buck setup to teach wire and stick basics (all the lower tier red and blue machines are Chinese crap too but still 2-3x the money).
