AzElkTalker Report post Posted June 21 Newbie here. I was lucky enough to draw the Archery Goat tag and Archery Elk tag in 6a !!! Still blown away!! If anyone can toss out some pointers for a newbie Goat Hunter it would be much appreciated
idgaf Report post Posted June 21 Stay away from the gimmicks. Paint suits, decoys, costumes.( they use to work, but are now overplayed) Find the buck you want to hunt and before season, let it see you and watch its escape route. They have a safe space they run to. Do it from varying distances. If you are hunting a place with a lot of hunters, set up in that escape area that they go to. If you don't have time for that go into the cedars and still hunt them.
Crazymonkey Report post Posted June 22 Usually find them in the same spot in 6 . We usually are looking for elk . They tend to be in a spot where they can see for a very long distance. We have had them come thru our elk camp spot . The picture was from last year's turkey hunt and just out side camp . There usual spot didn't have water so they were outa there normal bowl and up a little higher . As for elk scout and find a water supply and the elk will usually come to you . Buddies had the hunt last year and went 5 for 6 on elk .

Mr. Natural Report post Posted 6 hours ago Any success on the archery hunt? I tagged this buck opening day around noon on the 6A rifle season this past Friday. 11
Tom196 Report post Posted 6 hours ago Congrats, nice buck! I hunted hard all 14 days of the archery hunt but didn’t get a shot. Got to 100yds on several occasions and spent 7+ hrs one day crawling and jumping from juniper to juniper but they just kept working away from me. Overall I had a blast, didn't go up there expecting to get one with a bow. I’ve drawn the archery tag now 4 times in my lifetime and tagged out 20+ yrs ago the last time I drew. To this day thats my toughest hunt, bowhunting goats spot and stalk in this state. Monsoon always dumps enough rain that they get their water anywhere and don’t have to hit water holes. I’m 62 now so I wonder if I’ll ever draw this tag again before I’m too old to crawl across the prairie pushing my bow in front of me…. Congrats again!
