Land grab

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what this has to do with classifieds, but as long as a political issue is in play, I'd rather have some more of the vast Federal lands in Arizona in private hands than have another future president turn the rest of it into wilderness areas and National Monuments. Thats a perspective of one who has hunted in Arizona since 1961.

But honestly, I hope the mods move this to the Campfire forum or Political Discussons forum.

It's an interesting topic.  I would hate to see the west turn into the east where there is nowhere for the average Joe to recreate and hunt etc unless he has connections to a landowner.  On the other side of the coin the government is not doing a great job with management.  The devil is in the details and politicians are not to be trusted so I tend to agree with the OP.

You’d rather someone build a condo, golf course or data center than for you your kids or grandkids to be able to go backpacking?

I guess that’s an opinion.

Interesting. I would rather see more wilderness areas and less roads. I wasn't old enough to hunt in the 60's; but I was out alot in the 70's. Not many people had 4 wheel drives and there certainly were no quads or side by sides. But, there were plenty of remote areas to hunt. We need less roads and less development. Private land ownership would be a crap shoot to say the least.

When Bill Gates (largest private land owner) and Blackrock are 2 of his main campaign supporters he isn't stopping.

Largest according to what statistic?
He doesn’t make the top 20 list of largest private land owners in the US in acres. I think he owns some of the largest farmland by acres or something but it’s 1/10th of what the people on the private land list own

Anyone who thinks this will benefit or be good for the everyday American is a fool. It will be bought by millionaire/billionaire developers both for and against hunting and land access. No more just going out to camp, shoot, hunt. Over with, It'll be pay to play for everything. Enviro groups will buy and just shut down period. And most of us won't be able to afford it, were it is allowed, This isn't going be ol mom and pops hunting spread that we all go out and hunt on and the next property is cool with it too. Not gonna happen. Not in this day and age.  Who's to say foreign countries won't buy it, they already do. Was there anything in the legislation barring that? Where does the money go from the sale? Serious question, I don't know. We know Katie Hobbs screwed us on that at the state level.

I believe it was worded as the largest private "farmland" owner.
