WTB Garmin inreach mini

Anyone want to part with thiers? I see them going for about $150-$200 used. Figure it would check here before buying one.

Check into satellite texting on your cell phone. You may have it and not know it. It rolled out to most major providers over the past year. Included with your cell service and you can send and receive a text anywhere you have a clear line of sight to the sky, Cell coverage not needed. I think the days of InReach devices are nearing an end.

As far as the satellite text from your phone especially the iPhone dont work all the time. I have a buddy that has a horror story. The mini inreach is solid, I've used it in the past.

I’ve been wondering about this myself. Just got an iPhone upgrade with the satellite messaging and haven’t had much chance to test it out. Not getting rid of my InReach just yet.

Garmin just introduced an upgrade to the 67i.  Price is crazy high IMO.

It does come with a payment plan option SMH. Honestly I just have the inreach incase I break down.

Yeah man I heard it works sometimes, but not all the time on the iphone. I sold my mini a while back. Now I just bought one to replace it.

I've sent hundreds of satellite texts over the the past year and a half from all over the mountains, desert, etc. from my iphone. I have yet to have an issue sending or receiving.

I get it, but are you talking like backwood like 27, or Strip? Might be good on the rim (no punt intended) but in way remote areas I know of 2 friends that it would not work. But both on Iphones, different models. Both have bought the inreach with no issues. Seems like the mini is 100% solid. Less gear the better so if the iphone was good I see your point. Also good to hear thats its working. But also the mini is so small it's great imo.

Actually, I have sent satellite texts from both areas you mentioned (27 and the strip) as well as in the deep desert of sheep country, miles away from service. That is how satellite works (and I don't mean any insult here), it makes no difference if you are in the middle of Phoenix, Antartica, or Africa. If you can get a clear shot to the sky to link to a satellite in space, you are good to go. My guess is that guys aren't using it correctly. You do have to be connected to the satellite with your phone pointed at it to work (it tells you which direction to hold your phone after locating the nearest satellite). So if your phone is in your pocket, you won't receive messages. It doesn't work like traditional cell service. I've had InReach and sold mine once I thoroughly tested the satellite texting.

Take a look at the zaleo as an option, I just sold mine here a while back. I swithed to Zaleo from the mini because it was cheaper to operate and buy the unit. Worked flawless.

Im planning on the new sattelite text as well when i need it next.
