Nightforce or leupold

Recommended Posts

Zero interest in Leupold these days which I wish wasn't the case. Fragile scopes on average...

I owned a Mark 5HD. Excellent scope and glass but I have to ask, have you looked through a FFP scope yet on low power? The reticle is very small and hard to see in low light. I sold my Mark 5HD for that reason. I do want a Mark 5 HD again for a primary range rifle with some hunting but illumination is a must and anything under 5x is not really usable in the woods. I would recommend the 3.6-18x44 Mark 5HD since it is lighter weight.

I have a Mark 4 and a NX8. Judging off these two scopes. Night force is way better. Night Force has crisper turret adjustments, feels more sturdy, and I think the glass/picture quality is sixes.

I have very little experience with Nightforce but a friend of mine swears his VX6 has better glass. But you’re not really comparing apples to apples. VX6 is a dedicated hunting optic. The Nightforce is a tactical/target optic that can be used for hunting. The more like comparison would be the Mark 5. And it that case it’s the most used and most wins in PRS competition.

Night force is great if you make a bad shot you can take the scope off beat the animal to death put it back on and it'll be good to go!

I have been looking at.both brands also. One thing that really stood out to me was the play in the turret with both the vx5 and 6. It was way better in the Nightforce.  The Mark4 was also better than the VX5 and 6.

So I ended up going with the Nx8 and the clicks in the dial are more crisp but the leupold my dad has is more clear, not a huge crazy difference but it definitely is more clear

Sharing an experience with the crew that hosted the tent/booth at the Expo this year.  Lazy and uninterested when I started asking questions on how they compare to NF and Burris.  I was the only one there and thought I would get their attention while I was shopping a long range scope for a .300 RUM. The boys sat deep in their chairs and began talking among themselves and playing with their phones.  I attempted to gain their interest, picking up scopes and attempted market comparison dialog for a couple that I was interested in but their engagement and energy was pretty lame so I moved on.  This had a significant and unfortunate impression for me personally. Could be a one off experience, but thought I would share for reference.

Man that sucks, this sounds like 90 percent of archery shops I’ve been to, I just bought my own press and draw board at this point
