Rudebob Report post Posted Monday at 05:18 PM This last weekend during the 6A cow elk general hunt we had two different misfire situations. In both instances it was with Hornady ammunition, but two different types: 143 ELD-X and 120 CX (copper mono), both were fired from two different 6.5 Creedmore rifles. Both showed adequate primer strike indention. Ammunition and firearms were all recently acquired within this last year and neither have ever had misfire issues prior to these events during this hunt. The only possible variables not accounted for being temperature and possibly altitude-although neither I would consider extreme. Fortunately, there were enough shooting opportunities that both hunters were able to tag out using the same firearm/ammo combination. Was curious if anyone else has experienced similar situations with Hornady ammo or would have any thoughts on why two separate, isolated instances would occur under the same circumstances-other than quality issues with the manufacturer or their suppliers? Couzer Report post Posted Monday at 05:47 PM LRP or SRP? Just curious, they say it can happen more often with SRP. I have had a few with SRP on ammo that I have loaded.
STOMP442 Report post Posted Monday at 05:56 PM Fairly known fact Hornady struggles to hold SAAMI specs in ammo production. The ammo is often undersized allowing the case to be pushed forward in the chamber and not detonate the primer. Problem is compounded if your particular rifle is set up at maximum headspace. It could be other factors as well but since it happened in two different rifles my money is on the ammo.

10Turkeys Report post Posted Monday at 06:18 PM Could be the ammo, could be your firing pin spring needs cleaned/changed.
thegunsmith2506 Report post Posted Monday at 06:54 PM I've seen it 2 times with Hornady .308. Rifle shot everything else fine but just had 1 box with a few bad rounds.

Should of mentioned both shooting new, factory loads. One from CVA Cascade and the other a Ruger American. Other than suppressed no significant mods. Sorry, don't have pics right of the primers at the moment.

It was my grandson's tag along with two other youth hunters who drew on the same app. Friday they were screaming all morning. Never considered use for a call but my son went back to Flag to retrieve one. One bugle was all it took to bring in a bull with several cows in tow...that was all she wrote. Casey's game processing in Flagstaff said they took in a record number of animals for a single day on Saturday (50+) and had no room in the cooler to take any more.
