First, the Bo isn't grazing public land for free. They have to pay fees for the public land. Nobody has said anything about taking away livelihoods or any other bs like that. dakota boy needs to stay in dakota. This checkerboard crap has Az messed up all over the state. Not just on the bo. The conflict is having to pay for access to public land. Land that tax payers fund part of the road maintenance on also. And probably the fencing. This is a problem all over northern Az. From state line to state line. The bo has been a wreck since the tribe bought it. The tribal chairman went to prison over the purchase. Then the tribe tried to make it part of the rez. I don't even know who owns it now. Doesnt really matter. It ain't right for taxpayers to be kept from using public land. Like I said earlier. Deed half of the public land to bo, then bo deeds half of their private in the checkerboard lto the gov't. Then they have a solid chunk of private and the public has a solid chunk of public land. They still get to lease the same amount of land they're leasing now. Run just as many cattle. They just can't lock up the public land. Might have to make some concessions for wells and homes and other structures. Whatever the fix. It ain't right for taxpayers to have to pay a private company for access to public land. checkerboard started in the later 1800's. To help a&p fund the railroad they were deeded every other section (square mile-640 acres) for 40 miles on either side of the rail road. This is what is left. It's been about 135 years. It's time for the public to get access to their land. Lark

I guess I was raised to stay out of people's private business. Whether it's their land, their marriages, or their lack of ability to type coherent sentences. It's a free country and you have a right to the things that are yours, you just can't go around forcing your ideas on other people. Seems pretty simple to figure out. Even for a "dakota punk".

Just stay up there in baja canada. Leave Az to Arizonians. We are perfectly capable of running our own affairs. Don't need any input from some stupid smarmy as s that likes to keep multiple state lines between him and the folks he tries to goad. Is it lonely behind your mommies apron? This isn't private business. It is about almost 2 million acres of public land stretched over 300 miles from new mex to kingman. Over 250,000 just on the bo. Do you even know where the boquillas is? Ever been there? How about any of the checkerboard stretched across Az? I've dealt with it for decades, for hunting and business. So have thousands of other folks from Az. New mex has some of the same challenges. I've been to the Dakotas a bunch. All over both states. Where do they keep the morons? All the folks I met were good people. You're a mouthy punk. Lark

And that is exactly what 100+ armed hunters should say as they plow the gates down , We are only going to Use what is OURS TOO !

How Dumb Are you ? You keep saying their land ... NO body is arguing what they can do with Their Land ... Their Land does not and should not give them exclusive use to over 200,000 acres ( 314 square miles ) of ALL OUR LAND ....

It's a waste o' time trying to get through to this idiot. He has no clue what checkerboard land is, what it's about, or what it means to folks that hafta work around it. Guarantee ya he didn't know where bo was a few minutes ago. He probly just googled it tho. All he does is troll and try to act like a smarty pants. He probly still wets the bed. He's all for homo marriage but if a taxpayer wants to use public land, well then they're a socialist. That makes a lotta sense. He doesn't have a clue what a socialist is. Lark

I do actually understand what checkerboard land is. I have been to the big Bo, never been lucky enough to hunt it though. ND and MT are full of checkerboard private. Does it suck? Yep! Do I think that it would be unconstitutional to tell a rancher that we are taking this 200,000 acres on the west side and giving you 200,000 acres on the east side (or do you divide N to S? You didn't think of all of that did you?) and then we'll have a public block and a private block? Absolutely! I know you guys have spent enough time in the woods and desert to know that certain areas are better then others for game, cattle, crops etc. How exactly do you propose they divide it? No one is saying you can't drive down a publicly maintained road and hunt the checkerboard that touches it. It's done all the time in NM and MT. Again, a publicly maintained road is accessible to the public. Sometimes you have to do a little research to figure out which roads are publicly maintained and which aren't. Sometimes prick landowners will gate roads they can't gate. It does happen. Am I saying that's ok? No. Those are abuses of power just the same as the govt abusing their power. If you come up with a good plan to end the checkerboard fiasco across the western U.S. I would love to hear it.

Fat guys fartin' make more sense "then" you. Lark

Had to modify it because you're to stupid to know there is a difference between "then" and "than". They are 2 different words. Most folks know that. You'd think a guy that claims to have patients and alludes to have some medical degree would know that, but you'd think he'd know what a socialist is too, to, two. ( themerr diffurnt wurds to, 2, too)Go figger.

Explain to me how to split this ranch in half and deed one half and turn the other half into public Mr. Lark. I would LOVE to hear how this can be done without trampling on the owners rights or even the taxpayers rights. I actually think it's a good idea, but I'm also sane enough to know that it would never happen.

Alright let's make a checklist here:

1: approach em and talk about it

2: negotiate

3:?

Feel free to finish filling this in. You will have to put a few million in lawyer fees in there somewhere.... You can figure out where that money will come from too, after all you do know how "bizness werks". Maybe you should have a contingency plan ready in case they tell you to stick it, because they will. Then we can get the government involved and have us a nice little eminent domain case going. Startin to sound a little bit like government overreach now isn't it?

There are land trades all the time that this happens. However you need both parties to want the trade. There is no benefit in a land trade for the tribe as they would not get as big a lease price for half the amount of land. The ranch would not want this as I doubt they are paying anything to the state to feed their cattle on the state land as it is now.
