Flatlander Report post Posted April 19 1 hour ago, couesdeerhntr said: This late snow reminds me of a time when i was hunting turkey in the manzano mountains in nm. They stayed quiet until about 9am and then it seems like they finally warmed up and they were on fire. My cousin shot a double that day with one shot. 🤞

Everything on the jeep was frozen, birds were not talking. Walked 2 miles looking for tracks and calling. Not a peep. Now the roads are a disaster.

Couzer Report post Posted April 20 Well we had a blast. The night before opener we found some birds roosted on a easy access point. We woke up at 4am and and we frooze a little opening morning waiting for these birds to fly down. When they hit the ground I wasn't able to call them back. I fought with one bird for 15 minutes or so but he walked off. We next headed to our plan B spot. I was able to call a single hen in, and then a flock up the hill came to check out my live decoy. Hens and Jake's, no long beards. My older 12 year old boy could have easily taken a shot at a Jake but he waited for his little brother who just took hunters ED/Field day last week. The 10 year old shot and nailed a Jake, but unfortunately my 12 year old had no shot on the other Jakes due to couple hens not giving him a clear shot. Few hours later we had called in 11 Jake's off in a Canyon, they all came into my bad calling and my 12 year old was able to make a 20 yard shot on one. We were done opening day, we were extremely lucky I would say. Saw some long beards but for the life of me they kept hanging up. Watching my boys reactions and working together was priceless. EDIT: and thanks to Ammon for your calls, i used your mouth reed, pot, and box calls. 12 1
