Kid got a new to him truck. 94 chevy 1500. 350. Failed emissions. Hydrocarbons were 2.4 and NOX was 4.4. There are no cats on it, and they couldn't see they were missing.

Tune up and a tank full of 91?

Yeah I was leaning that way. I'd have to take it to a shop though, but its probably gonna be the case. Too low for me to work on.

Historical plate maybe?

Won't do a thing. 1967 and later need emissions.

Kids got good taste. Low, but still practical.

The jig is up on that. My Tahoe was registered in Alpine. Luckily, I ended up selling it to my father-in-law. DPS came looking to make sure it was there.

I had the same truck, but a 97, lifted in college. The girls loved it, and I loved that. It was a gutless wonder with the lift. Felt like it needed a gear reduction.

You probably think I'm crazy. But My Grandpa was a mechanic. I had a 88 Chevy Silverado that never would pass emissions. My Grandpa had me buy moth balls crush them up and put about 6 in a full tank of gas. Truck would pass emissions every time and ran better.

I never heard that but I would be interested in the chemistry on that to know. What I can say is denatured alcohol will get your truck to pass emissions (there's other tricks too) if the concentration is high enough. But if you get someone else that does the visual inspection and they see there's no cats then it won't matter.

If you go the alcohol  road  the alcohol  will  burn at a different  rate than gas . My custom harley  would not pass the stupid  emissions crap and my bike mechanic  said  to use alcohol  but don't  run it to long as it runs hot. It can cook stuff  in a hurry.

It has a lower stoichiometric ratio than gas so it will have a more efficient combustion (lower emissions). Once you get through emissions you fill up to dilute it since alcohol isnt great for rubber parts. Ive been doing this trick (mostly for others) since the late 90s.

At least you won't have any months in your exhaust!
