Should I purchase this rifle

Recommended Posts

Here is a howa rifle I found on sportsmens. I seen good overall reviews. I recently sold a lot of my stuff over this last year after being put out of work for sometime due to a car accident and I had to cover bills ect. Now I am looking to buy a rifle that can cover most of what I'd like to do for big game. My goals are coues out past 500 yards if needed. Elk for up to 400 yards. And I plan on doing a cow moose hunt next year or 2027 in Colorado too. If anyone has expirience with this rifle. Please let me know!

I have a Howa 1500 SS Hogue stock 308 win. that shoots extremely well. Its not for sale. they are a very solid rifle.

I dont have any experience with the carbon stocked models though.

I have a Howa in 308 and it is plenty accurate. The only thing I'm not a fan of with this model is the two stage trigger. I could tolerate it on a range rifle but not on a hunting rifle.

I saw this and figured if  pick one up too because that’s a great deal but sold out in Tucson in looks like

I went back on and now It won't let me order like it would've earlier. Only inventory is in Alaska but they won't transfer store to store due to some state law. Sucks but Im sure I'll find another good deal soon with the holidays!

Have you thought about buying a stainless steel rifle?

IMHO they make a better hunting rifle. Ive been using them since they started making them.

That looks really nice. I would consider. My buddy is willing to sell me a winchester model 70 extreme weather in SS. Its a 7 mag which I am fine with too. But I really want to build a light rifle setup too. I was originally looking at the Howa Super Lite in 308. But I cannot find it anywhere

We have one of these Ruger American 6.5 PRC Camo Rifles still in stock

You'll see SW was charging $659.99 for it.

We can do it for $549.99 and save you some bucks on it.   If you're interested let me know.  We have other rifles near that price-point that would serve you well too.

Does anyone have a good idea of how well it shoots? I had a gen 1 recently and it was solid. Id like to make up to 500 yards hunting with this if possible! I saw it today at scheels and almost bought it

Howa is a great rifle but not in 6.5 Creed. You'd be way undergunned for Moose or Elk but then how close can you get so you can plant a bullet in the head. Howa is a well made rifle and in 308 it would be a much better choice. But then there are other calibers that would be an even better choice!! I've been doing this advice thing for almost 70 years

A friend of mine bought this exact rifle for his boy. We were out shooting my dinger at 760 about a year ago and if I remember right it shot roughly a 6” 5 shot group. I think it was shooting 143s at like 2940 vs the 143s through my creed at 2650. He didn’t like the brake so he put a Witt machine brake on it. I think $550 is a good deal for this rifle
