Stanley, yes,  the federal deficit is of concern to me.  Believe it or not, I consider myself a fiscally conservative republican.  We don’t need to be another country that’s financially crushed due to government spending and mismanagement. A balanced budget is a pipe dream with all of our government waste, and the fact each party demands funds for their pet causes….ie Obamacare, basically our government paying for individual healthcare.  Side note, how come congress still gets paid during a shutdown, yet TSA is required to work without pay? They should lose their pay permanently for each day of a shutdown. I’d bet they’d reconcile much quicker..

The first step I see to reduce the federal deficit, is to shrink our government. There are too many  departments wasting money  and providing no benefit to the citizens of the country. Committees formed to review things nobody cares about.   DOGE was a good start.   Secondly, quit sending money we don’t actually have to foreign countries, let them bail themselves out.  Third, quit giving money to people who don’t want to work and aren’t even trying to find work.  Or illegal immigrants.  I’ve worked my entire life, paid taxes, and never asked for a handout.

Trump makes promises he can’t deliver for sure.  The war in Ukraine is far from over, we’ve poured billions into it that we don’t have, and will never see again.  Inflation has slowed, but prices are still out of control. Tariffs have raised  consumer prices, but also caused some major companies to bring production back to the US. But the average American hasn’t benefitted from them.

Did I miss anything?

A funny story , tho. The Mexican citizen who launches our boats out of Cholla Bay raised his rates twice during the Biden admin, the second one amounting to a 33% increase from before 2020. When I commented on it, his reply was “Blame your F-ing President!”   When I replied, “My President?” He said  “Yaah, your F-ing President!  You dollars aren’t worth sh*t no more!” He then started going into the dollar to peso exchange rate, leaving me laughing..

Yikes. You don’t think $5 gas affects bottom lines for small business owners?

Easier said than done. Young people just starting out and seniors eeking out survival on a fixed income. When prices and COL was low (decades ago) moderate rises in inflation vs wage increases was copable.

Fast forward and inflation plus rising costs across the board make it a stretch for familes to keep pace and save for the future. Granted, it's not quite a perfect storm and people are not looking for handouts.

Fiscal responsibility is completely not in the big picture of politicians as they skim the cream. Show me one that actually is serving their constituants needs without having a hand in their pocket.

They all want to be a Mother Theresa but once they get elected and see how much personal gain they can get by manipulating the system they get jaded.

The number crunch is what most people do in their spare time without any seriousness, "I've got time, gonna start next year". Say you would have retired 20 years ago at 65 with $500K in savings, no pension and $2,500 a month in SS.

I don't have to tell you about the price of groceries. Today at Wallyworld a can of Progresso Soup was $2.48 and a watermelon was $8. Food City has watermelons @ 85cents a pound. Those suckers were bigger than a basketball and probably weighed  15#'s easy.

Sure SS dishes out a COLA, but it doesn't even keep up with the yearly Medicare increase. Which by the way is far from free and you better have a suppliment policy too so expect to fork out $300 or more a month. Need to go into assisted living? Hope your family can ante up $10K a month.
