Youth Turkey Camp

Recommended Posts

I decided to volunteer this year on the Youth Turkey Hunt and sure was impressed with every aspect of it. It was as well organized as anything I've ever attended and the work that goes into putting something like this together is amazing. My hats off to the Az Elk Society, Turky foundation, and the Phoenix Varmit Callers. Sorry if I left anyone out.

All kids along with their parents all seemed to be having a great time and with the help of all the mentors and azgfd most either got to see turkeys or heard them. Not sure exactly how many were shot but quite a few. Putting something of this size together couldn't be possible without the help of all the volunteers and I applaud each and everyone of you. When I was told I had to get up at 2:30am to be in the kitchen by 3am I thought they were kidding. lol

If you've never been to one of these camps I encourage you to do so. Sign up your kids or volunteer as a mentor or part of the camp staff. I promise you will never regret it. Not the best but here are a few pictures.

Awesome, TJ! Great pics! Yes, I agree that anyone who has not attended one of these things should definitely give it a try. Love the positive energy that usually goes along with the Youth Camps!

Hey TJ, Great job helping out. I had to stay home and prepare for our Turkey hunt in 2 weeks, as well as catch up on household duties. But Mark did take a buddy and his son out Turkey hunting, not sure if they made it by camp.

Excellent! Love seeing CW members getting out there and giving back!

Some of the other cwt members I seen there were Tommy(aka couestracker), Connor(aka deserthntr), and already mentioned but worth mentioning again Darr Coburn(aka darrcolburn) and his son Parker who shot his first turkey. Glad to see you guys and thanks for supporting such a great cause.

TJ, Thanks for all of your help at the camp.

This Youth Mentored Turkey Hunting Camp is successful because of the dedication of the volunteers that help out from beginning to end. We would not be able to host as many kids without the volunteers like TJ that cooked meals for all the camp attendees. We would not have been able to make sure all the new hunters were assisted by experienced mentors without those volunteer mentors. Many G&F Wildlife Managers make it a point to stop by camp and talk with the kids, families and volunteers. Providing youth with a chance to hunt and learn from mentors helps to reinforce that hunting is ok.

If you ever get a chance, even for a day to help at one of these camps you will find no greater reward than the smile of the kids and many of them are going to be good ambassadors to help us pass on our hunting heritage.

Thanks again to all the volunteers, you all deserve a pat on the back for a job well done.

Steve
