Coues assassin Report post Posted July 9, 2014 I have been looking into getting a new 12 ga that holds up to 3 1/2 shells. Either semi or pump doesn't really matter. khmer6 Report post Posted July 9, 2014 For the budget I'd look into the Stoeger M3500. Auto shotgun with 3.5. Lots of pump 3.5" for over 300$ as well. If your heart isn't truly set on 3.5" then 3" autos can be found for fairly cheap too. 3.5" is pretty pricey compared to 3". Technology today has gotten a lot better too. Mostly dove, quail, and duck. And I just recently got Into geese and turkey hence the want for 3 1/2. I know it's not needed but it doesn't hurt to have it as an option! dustin25 Report post Posted July 9, 2014 I'd look for an older Remington 870 wingmaster.I think they might only hold 3 inch shells at most though. But I have a 1966 wingmaster and it is absolutely the most reliable, smooth, natural feeling shotgun I've ever shot and I've been around some high end shotguns.I only hunt dove and quail, but there's absolutely no shotgun I'd rather use. 4 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Little Creek Calls Report post Posted July 9, 2014 If you are going to be shooting a lot of ducks a semi auto might be nice but harder to get a quality gun in your price range. Like khmer6 said Stoger might be the best semi auto on a budget. If you go with a pump you can get top of the line gun and still have a few bucks leftover. My suggestions for pumps are if you are a remington guy get an 870, if not buy a Browning or Mossburg or Benelli. If you are wanting to hunt a lot of ducks and turkey defiantly go for one with a camo pattern, if you dont you will wish you did later. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

khmer6 Report post Posted July 10, 2014 Remington 870 wingmaster had a 3.5 but tough to find and usually go for a premium. If you really want the 3.5 my vote goes hands down to the stoeger m3500. It's a Beretta / Benelli legal clone even comes with a full set of chokes. Can be had for new under 500? biglakejake Report post Posted July 10, 2014 apoplexy. that is what i got TRYING to read this thread..omg. maybe nausea is a better term for it. an all-around shotgun? that sounds like a freightliner on a dirt track. all-around? the 4 1/2 lb upland special is the only smoothbore i'ld carry into the sahuaritas for quail...the model 12 with an old fixed full choke would work for turkey....brandt shooting down baja or ducks at topolobampo are a joy with an 870 or a red label.... oh and about that fine wood stock...how would you be honoring your prey by shooting a 'shotgun' with a stock made out of the same material they make rubber worms with... save your pennies and invest in fine shotguns-they will never let you down. all-around shotgun? me thinks maybe eleanor o'connor's winchester model 21 20 ga would make nice all-around shotgun. It really is. I wanted a Beretta so bad I could taste it a few years ago but when I closed my eyes and brought it up to my shoulder and tight to my cheek the sight pattern was way off.
