sniper Report post Posted August 27, 2015 I asked a game warden this exact question last weekend. Yes you can recover your game past the close of a hunt if: you carry no weapon (I would assume a sidearm is ok), you can't leave the hunting area- like go home and then drive back up to the unit, and you need to contact the G&F about the situation. I can't remember if he told me 24 hours, or something like that too. He told me that at times hunters have been "searching" for game after the close of a season to get an additional day of hunting or maybe if there was no luck finding the wounded animal, and another animal presented itself to the hunter, then they would take that animal and say it was the one they were looking for. You get the idea. He told me that if you locate the game and it needs to be put down you will need to contact the G&F to do that. I think this is highly debatable due to an animal suffering and just being plain reasonable about it. I would definitely call game and fish and speak with them if this happened to me because sometimes different people give different answers. Good luck on finding the BEAR!!! capoeirajosh Report post Posted August 28, 2015 Well, after a long day in the canyon crawling on our hands and knees through the thickets, we were unable to recover the bear. We did get back on blood right away in the morning. Eventually, it brought us to a bed that the bear had dug out for itself. The bed was wet with fresh blood. Because, of this I believe that the bear is still alive. I think the bear slept in that bed last night, heard us coming and just got up and walked away. We found 2 pin drops of blood past the bed. From there we tried to just go in the general direction that the bear seemed to be headed to no avail. Thank you everyone for the support. 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

If he was still alive and you got on him with not much energy left, and he felt cornered, it could have been a situation requiring very quick reflexes, that is for sure! Everything from crawling through the thickets to crawling into caves with the headlamp and 357. I am planning on going up next weekend to see if I can glass up vultures if he is in fact dead.
