Thanks to all of you for the kind/warm welcome.......I am very much looking forward to the move and getting to know some new folks in the area.

I would certainly like to connect with those of you who live in the Prescott area, I appreciate any knowledge I can get from the locals.

 

There are a few guys in the Prescott and Chino areas from some of the gun and ammo forums that I have made connection with already.

 

Besides hunting and fly fishing, I am an avid shooter/reloader and looking forward to being in a non-communist state for a change!

 

I am the owner/operator of a successful general contracting business for the past 30 years and although the Seattle area has lots of $$$......it's gotten out of control and it's time for a life change.

 

Wish I could say that I am moving down there to retire, but unfortunately I will have to find a paycheck to keep the lights on, so I may start my own company in AZ or find a reputable contractor to work for a while. Or maybe I will go in a completely different direction.

 

Will be listing this place for sale by mid January, and if the market stays as hot as it is right now, it should not take very long to sell.

Welcome! This site is a lot of fun and has a lot of great info that's family friendly as well. You'll love it here and just like every state- the AZ outdoors will offer you something no other state can.

 

Having said that-

 

The rules for hunting here are extremely simple. It is open season year round on the following:

 

Communists, socialists, tree huggin' hippies, people who use the word dude & man in the same sentence, drug mules and ANYONE who feels the "right to bare arms" is outdated. Just make you sure are humane when dispatching..don't use 3 bullets when you can finish the whole clip.

 

To fit in- always have a side arm and enough ammo in the closet to support a militia.

 

I am obviously just kidding! (you should have enough ammo for an army)

I just hope that AZ is able to fight off Bloomberg and his followers.........they bought out this past election in Washington and unfortunately those who believe in the 2nd Amendment were outnumbered and more importantly out-spent when it came to political ads.......a real shame!!

And recently, the Lib's on the Seattle City Council voted to impose a 5 cent per round tax on ALL ammunition sold in the city limits......5 CENTS PER ROUND!

And to top that, they added a $25 "City Tax" to each gun sale.

Needless to say, they are trying to push gun shops out of the city limits.......and it's working!

I lived in WA for several years. From Yelm to MT Lake Terrace. WA has the worst politcs and social bureaucracy, period!

 

The procedure for becoming a licensed contractor in AZ is much tougher, look into it ahead of time.

 

I miss the fishing, crabbing and OTC tags a lot, but not I-5. Lol

I lived in WA for several years. From Yelm to MT Lake Terrace. WA has the worst politcs and social bureaucracy, period!

I miss the fishing, crabbing and OTC tags a lot, but not I-5. Lol

Thanks, I have already been looking into contractor licensing in AZ. I spoke with the local contractor assoc. and also the state. My current business bonding/insurance will transfer no problem and as for testing, since I have been in business in another state I will only have to take a portion of the test. I will be checking in with some of the local builders in the meantime to see if I can get a project manager/superintendent or similar job. Or possibly partner up with someone who is reputable. It will be tough going from an owner to punching a clock, but you got to do what you got to do to keep the lights on!

 

On another note, I see you have horses. I have been fortunate enough to hunt with some great guys here and was part owner of 12 head including a few mules. Nothing better than getting into the Bob Marshal and other wilderness areas with horses!!! I miss those days. We did the High Early at Buck Creek Pass many times, some incredible memories for sure.

 

I will certainly look you up when I get down there.

The photo below was taking on a fly fishing float trip down the Yakima River in WA. Rivers and streams are certainly going to be missed.

You can hunt bull elk every year if you are willing to chase them with your bow in November. I am 2 for 2 doing that the last couple years. This year I switched up to rifle but next year will probably go nov archery again. I like hunting elk not sitting around waiting for 10 years like some of these guys. I get drawn pretty much every year by knowing the system and how the draw works. So if you are willing to hunt elk when it is not the rut you will have many opportunities.

Was supposed to do a combo mule driving clinic and pack trip into the Bob last month but the dates got skewed. Next year for sure. Lots of Wilderness areas here so I can't complain.

I have no problem hunting elk late season. Currently I hunt Idaho starting on August 30th, and the bulls are just starting to get a bit antsy at that time. Later Sept. is better for rut, but personally I like being in the woods opening day.

Thanks for the heads up on the Nov. hunt, I will study the regs and get with you guys when I get down there so I can take advantage of your knowledge on the draws, etc.

Man, get ready for a whole new perspective on hunting, dude. Deer behavior between muleys and whitetails is largely upside down in this state. I came here, from Western Montana, a few years back and I have been able to draw some sort of general tag every year. This year, I didn't draw a deer tag, but I drew an "any elk" tag, so I am happy. Being an archery hunter gives you far more hunting opportunities than I have,

Water is what you carry, I haven't been many places in this state's backcountry, where there existed water that I would want to drink (even if I had a filtration system with me).

If you like to get out and bushwhack, boots don't have long life span in this state. The rock here chews through boots like warm butter vs. 120 deg lava rock.

 

I live just North of Prescott, and I am still getting to know some of the local area/units.

Here, it's quail not grouse. Maybe grouse further north in the state, but I don't know about that.

AZ. does have blue grouse but I have never harvested one, the White Mountains and the Kaibab are the 2 places I have seen them, have also seen chuckars around jump up point on the Kaibab.
